Matt 2:1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him." When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. "In Bethlehem in Judea," they replied, "for this is what the prophet has written: "'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.'" Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him." After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. (Is 14:12 Satan was called the morning star. Acts 12:7, Acts 26:13(brighter than the sun)
- What a day! Jesus the son of God came to the earth and was born, what a miracle.
- Why did he come? To take away our sins, to die on the cross, to show us the way, to be an example, to reveal the Father, to give us his word, to defeat the devil?
- YES, but there is another reason.
John 1:6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (NIV)
John 12:46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.(NIV)
Acts 26:18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'
- The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.
- The purpose was to lead us OUT of darkness and into his light
- Light is a lifestyle not a one time event
- If we follow him we can always get more
- What happens when we run out of light (candle burns out)?
- We can come to him daily and get more
- We can only get true light from Jesus
- Lighting of candles – on the Christmas tree * Lighting the candles on the light that Jesus brings
- If you have not received Jesus you can come now and take a candle and light it on the Candle that Jesus is holding and I will pray for you to receive Jesus now.
- Those that are already saved and you want to let the Lord know that it is his light that you will follow – come now and light your candle.
