Is their something in your life that you need to be reminded of Constantly
Maybe its your medication
Maybe its picking up the kids from School or taking them.
Maybe its an appointments.
We have apps on our phones that are their to remind us of important things.
Like calendars, and every note.
I don’t about you but at one point in my life I had a note pad by my bed so I could write down things that I needed to remember.
Today, in our text Paul is going to remind all of us of the most important thing. Paul is going to remind all of us of The Gospel.
He is writing the Church of Corinth who is struggling. And he is going to remind them of the main thing.
ple are eating meat from idols causing others to stumble.
Paul is writing to a church that is messed up.
This is a church that has division in the church and who they would follow.
In Chapter 3 Paul addresses the issue that some wanted to follow Apollos and some Paul.
Paul reminds them they are all Gods workers
In Chapter 5 we see that Paul says their is sexual immorality among them. Some men sleeping with their fathers wives
In Chapter 6 we see that some church members thought it be best to sue other church members
In Chapter 8 some people are eating meat from idols causing others to stumble.
In Chapter 12 Paul addresses Spiritual gifts some thought themselves to be more spiritual because of the gift God had givne them.
I love this book because it reminds me how off track and how messed up the Christ follower can be. It reminds me that we are all sinner and we need to be reminded of what Paul will remind us of today.
If you are messed up. If your life is not together you have come to the right place today. God has a word for us.
Then Paul comes to chapter 15 and he says
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand,
2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
1 Paul, called by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and our brother Sosthenes,
2 To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours:
Paul starts off by saying I would remind you brothers.
1 Corinthians 15:
1
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand,
Paul is speaking to the church, the Christ follower and Paul says. I want to remind you of something fellow Christ follower.
I want to remind you of something Tar Heel Baptist church.
What does Paul want to remind us of?
He says that he wants to remind us of the gospel that he preached.
We all need to be reminded of the gospel.
Many of us when it comes to the gospel, we think of it as a tool we use to lead someone to Christ and then it is of no use to us.
J.D. Greear says the gospel is not the diving board for which we dive into the pool of Christianity it is the pool itself that we swim in.
Paul knew what this trouble church needed most to be reminded of is the gospel.
The Gospel is what you and I need to be reminded of not only on Easter but each week and each day.
This past week I meet with some pastors to pray. One of the pastor prayed something along the lines of “Thank you that we can come and celebrate your resurrection this Sunday, but not just this Sunday may the resurrection be something we celebrate every day.
Paul says this gospel that I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved.
The gospel had to be recieved. There was a point in your life where someone presented the gospel to you and you didn’t reject it be you recieved it. If you are a Christ follower
If you have not recieved the gospel I want to encourage you to receive this message of the gospel this Easter morning.
Not only did we receive it we also stand in the message of the gospel.
The gospel message is not something we move beyond.
Many believe this is the message we receive to accept Christ and then we move beyond it. The message of the gospel is what we stand in each day. We never move pass this life changing message.
It is the message of the gospel that reminds us we are loved when we feel unloved. For Jesus loved us enough to die in our place.
It is the message of the gospel that reminds us we can’t make it in this world alone. The gospel reminds us that Jesus had to come and die in our place so that we would find forgiveness of sins.
It is the message of the gospel that speaks to us when we face death. The gospel reminds the Christ follower their is something better to come
It is the message of the gospel that speaks to us in the middle of our hurt, suffering, pain and the storms of life. The gospel reminds us that Jesus has faced, hurt, pain, suffering and the biggest storm of all.
We must stand in the gospel.
Paul next says the gospel is the message that we are being saved.
The way Paul words this is. The gospel message didn’t just save us past tense. Meaning it is not just some event that took place in the past.
Paul use of the word being means it is present tense.
Right now in this moment because of receiving the message and accepting the message of the gospel I am being saved.
I am becoming more like Christ.
If I where to die right now this minute I would be in the presents of the Lord.
In verse 3-4 Paul is going to give us the gospel message that he recieved.
This morning maybe you have never heard the gospel and you need to receive it, or maybe you have heard the gospel lots of times and you have received it and need to be reminded of it.
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,
4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
Paul is reminding them that while he was with them he delivered to them the message of first importance.
In the church we spend a lot of time talking about all kinds of things
We talk about musical style. How many times have we had this conversation
We talk about end of times. When is Jesus coming back
We talk about leadership in the church: Eldership vs. Deacon lead, verse staff lead or congregational lead
We talk about theological matters. Calvinism vs. Armnisim.
Many churches and Christ followers will rise certain issues to the main issue
Being pro-life from conception to the grave
That we should not descriminate
That we should stand against social injustices
That
That we should fight the war on drugs
We spend a lot of our time talking about how we need God back in our country.
And all of this is important stuff.
However the message of first importance for the church is the message of the gospel.
The gospel is not a secondary subject and nor is it just another subject like the rest of these mentioned. It is not a subject we should just add to the end of a sermon.
The gospel is not just another
The gospel message is the main subject. It is of primary importance.
The gospel is the main thing, because the gospel is all about Jesus.
The gospel is the main thing, because the gospel is all about Jesus.
Their is not a more important message I can share with you this morning than the message of the gospel.
Their is not a more important message I can share with you this morning than the message of the gospel.
Their is not a more important message that you can share with your family and friends, or co-workers than the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Many of us will be eating with our families this afternoon of which some will be lost. We will talk about all kinds of things.
We will talk about what is going on in our lives. We will talk about what is going on with our jobs. We will talk about what is going on in the world maybe politics, or what is in the news. We will talk about sports. We will reflect on those that arn’t there or to a better time when more of the family has gotten together.
But there is nothing more important that we can talk about with our families than the life changing message of the gospel.
Paul says it is of first importance.
Paul had recieved this message and now Paul is passing it on to others.
So What is the message of the gospel
First, Christ has died.
Why is this a big deal? Why is this important? Why do we call the day Christ died Good Friday?
I am glad you asked.
Many important people have died.
George Washington died
Abraham Lincolin died
Martin luther king died
Rosa Parks died.
Billy Graham died
In your mind if you look at history every important person to ever live has died or will die at some point. But none have been more important than Jesus Christ.
Why did Christ death matter so much? We must look at who Christ is first.
The other day my wife Ginnie had career day at her school. Brittany Lyndsay came and she asked all the students what they thought she did. They gave all kinds of answers
Some said a singer, some said a music teacher.
They where all wrong. Yes, she is a great singer. But that is not what she does.
Many have debated of who Jesus was.
Some say he was nothing more than a great moral teacher. (he thought us to love people) and we can learn a lot from his teachings
Some say he was nothing more than someone who lead a major movement with reforms
Some say he was nothing more than a prophet (such as in the muslim religon)
We must look at who Jesus said he was because that is what really matters.
For you see Jesus never claimed he was just a good moral teacher.
Jesus never claimed to be just a prophet
Jesus never claimed to be someone who was leading a major movement that would bring social reforms.
Jesus saw himself as the son of God, because he was the son of God. Jesus saw himself as the way.
In matthew 16:16 Peter says you are the Christ and listen to how Jesus responds
16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 16:16-
16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus didn’t just say he was the son of the living God. He claimed to be the only way to heaven
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
In this verse Jesus says I am the way to God. The only way.
Gods Son died for our sins.
God son was perfect in every way. He never did anything, say anything, or do anything that God the father hated.
Jesus never sinned not once.
So why did he die for our sins.
tells us
21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
1 Cor
Jesus died in our place.
For we have sinned. We have thought things, said things, and done things that God hates. We do deserve the full wrath of God. We do deserve Hell.
So the perfect son of God gave of himself and died on a cruel rugged cross for our sins.
Jesus was then put in a Joesph Tomb. They laid him in the tomb and begain the burial process. They had to stop because the sabbath was approaching.
On the third day which was Sunday, the women went to the tomb to finish preparing Jesus body and when they showed up to the tomb the stone had been rolled away. Jesus was not there. Because Jesus had rise. Jesus is alive.
This is important because says
17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.
Christ had to raise from the dead, because had he not we would still be guilty of our trangression against God and we would still have to face Gods wrath.
5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.
6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.
7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
Paul then points to eye witnesses that saw Jesus after he and risen from the grave.
He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve
The he appeared to 500 people at one time and most of the 500 is still alive that you can go talk to.
1 Corinthians 15:
Then he appeared to his half brother James who would go on to lead the church in Jerusalem.
For me that is a pretty convencing fact. How many of us could convence our siblings that we are the perfect son of God. The messiah and yet Jesus half brother beleived it enough to become the church leader and then die because of that.
The Corinthian church would have known some of these people who would have testified about Jesus raising from the dead.
8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.
9 For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.
11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.
8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.

Last Paul tells them that Jesus appeared to him.
Paul was on the Damascus road and Jesus appeared to him and ask him why he was persecuting HIm and going against his will.
On that day Paul gave his life to Christ and everything changed.
He went from perscuting the church to becoming one of its leaders.
He went from being against Christ to following Christ.
It is my prayer today that some of you, that God would call your name and you would respond like Paul and make Jesus your Savior.
That like Paul you would go from making fun of Christ follower to becoming one.
That you would go from Darkness to the light
That you would go from being against Christ to following Him.
Paul says in verse 10 that it is by Grace he is who he is. We come this morning worshipping a risen Savior because of grace. We none deserve this gift that Christ has given us. Like Paul God has shown us grace.
So we are who we are in because of the grace that God has shown us.
If God has not shown us Grace, we would still be left to ourselves and following the path to descruction.
Some of you this morning this is the path you are on. I plead with you take the grace that is being offered to you this morning.
Because of that Grace that was shown to Paul, Paul worked hard.
Because of the Grace that has been shown to us we should serve Jesus with everything we have.
Paul is then going to move on the the rest of to say that if Christ came and rose from the dead. He promised to come back and when he comes back the dead in Christ will rise.
Your family members who gave there life to Christ.
Your mom, your dad, a husband or wife. A grandparent
If you have given your life to Christ you will rise and meet him in the air.
Is your soul ready for Jesus to come back? If Jesus where to come now, now, now. Would you meet him in the air?
The former famous pianist for the the gather vocal bad Anthony Burger. Tells the story of being at his son Easter play when he was a child. His son played Jesus. He was in the tomb. The stone had been rolled away. His son yells out from the tomb at the top of his lungs. Ready or not Here I come and he came running out of the tomb.
There is coming a day weather you are ready or not when Jesus will return.
So, I beg of you, give your life to Jesus.
Every Head bowed.
