Today is a Happy day, and we’re going to think a little about what makes it so happy.
But the first easter did not start very happily!
In fact, it was a very sad day!
We’ve seen wat makes you guys happy.
But makes you sad?
Matthew 28:1 NIV - Anglicised
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
mat 28
Why were the Mary’s going to a tomb?
YES - Jesus, their friend had died.
More than just their friend, they believed Jesus was able to make them friends with God!
What else makes you sad?

1 - What makes you sad?

ASK -
But Jesus’ death should also make us sad, all of us… not just people called Mary.
Jesus had died - a painful death on the cross.
Yes Jesus had died - a painful death on the cross.
Why did he die?
1 - God created the world good,
2 - We messed it up, and still do today - turn our backs on God.
3 - And God can’t accept us like that!
4 - But God loves us so much that he didn’t want it to end that way.
5 - So, he sent his only son Jesus to die for us on the cross.
Jesus, took the punishment we deserve.
God still does the right thing,
punishment is given out.
But not on us!!
On Jesus!
If we believe that,
then that will make us sad.
We, are the cause of Jesus, death.
When you have made someone sad, what is the best thing todo.
what is the best thing todo.
YES _ say sorry.
You see,
while we should be sad that Jesus had to die in our place,
this is not a day to be sad!
In FACT - being a Christian is not a life that needs to be sad!
We can say sorry, be forgiven,,,, and then
Have a look what happened next...

Matthew 28:2–4 NIV - Anglicised
There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
What’s going on now!....

Matthew 28:5–7 NIV - Anglicised
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
YOU see if Jesus stayed dead,
that would be very sad forever more.
But he rose from the dead!

2 - What makes you happy?

The news that makes Christians
happiest today is that Jesus didn’t stay dead.
He rose from the dead!!
The man who died so we can be friends with God,
came back to life!
Look what the Mary’s thought....
Matthew 28:8 NIV - Anglicised
So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.
mat 28
A bit scared -
people don’t normally rise from the dead!
But also full of joy!! He is risen!
Their friend was no longer dead!
Everything he had said about eternal life
with God could now be true!
Jesus is risen!
SO, if you’re feeling sad
that we haven’t always done the right thing,
we have lived for ourselves not for God,
then the news that Jesus is risen,
will make us happy
if we say sorry, and accept his forgiveness!
All those things that we said in the video earlier are great things,
and they do make us happy.
But believing and hearing that Jesus rose from the dead will make us even happier.
It’s the best news ever!
Our third point is a big one!

3 - Who makes you happy?

The Mary’s are on their way to tell the other disciples the great news.
They are still scared, but also happy, and now look what happens!!!!!
Matthew 28:9–10 NIV - Anglicised
Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshipped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”
mat 28
GREETINGS!!
Can you all say Greetings!
Shall I tell you what Greetings means in the language Jesus used....
It means: Be glad! - Be Happy!
This is such exciting news, for all of us,
not just the kids - adults as well!
Jesus rose from the dead, and his first instruction to his friends is:
BE HAPPY!
GREETINGS
JESUS wants us to be HAPPY!
Remember the 2 emotions the Mary’s have - they are afraid and they are joyful.
And Jesus says - Greetings! Be Happy,
then he says - do not be afraid - don’t be scared.
This is the great thing about knowing Jesus.
We never need to be afraid, or scared when we think about being friends with God.
or scared, even sad things are only sad for a while with Jesus.
Even when we have made him sad.
Becasue Jesus wants us to be Happy!
He tells us, he wants us to be happy!
I am risen he says,
If you have said sorry, if you want to know me says Jesus.
Then today is the greatest day ever.
He has Risen, He is our friend, He wants us to be Happy!
Greetings!
Christian’s here today -
Jesus doesn’t just want us to feel forgiven
He doesn’t just want us to know in our heads that we have eternal life with Him.
He wants us to know him, and for us to be Happy!
Write ‘Greetings’ on the front of your bibles -
It is God’s way of telling you to be Happy - to enjoy Jesus.
Write greetings on the back of your front door,
so as you leave the house you know Jesus rose again so we can know and love him and be happy.
Write greetings on your phone case,
on your bedside table,
on your school bag,
on your dog.
Where are you going to wirte ‘Greetings’?
Anything to remind yourself that the Christian life is one of being Happy,
becasue we know Jesus, the risen Lord.
Things will make us sad, But Jesus never will.
Things might scare us, But Jesus never will.
We might get things wrong and be sad we have turned away from God -
But Jesus has died for you,
risen for you,
and wants to say to you....
Greetings - Be Happy.
Let’s Tell everyone this week,
Jesus makes me Happy.
