Jesus' death on the cross made a way for us to be reconnected to and found innocent before God.
Jesus’ death offers peace with God.
The only way we can have peace with God is by believing in what Jesus did for us.
Has anyone ever broken a bone and had to have it re-broken to make sure it heals right.
As if it’s not bad enough you broke your bone.
Let me hear some broken bone stories… So you do that, then you have to have it broken again to make sure it goes back to the way it’s supposed to be.
But this super painful experience is ultimately for your good.
This is kind of what we’re looking at with Jesus’ death on the cross.
Jesus had to die for us to have peace with God.
And it had to be Jesus.
First, Jesus is God, that’s what vs 19 says.
Jesus is 100% God and 100% human.
If you’re good at math, you know that’s odd.
But it’s true.
And He had to be for him to be an acceptable sacrifice.
Because he’s human He can represent the rest of us.
Because He’s God, He was able to be worth enough to pay then penalty we owed.
Because He’s God and He’s perfect, He didn’t deserve to die.
But He did, willingly.
So because of all this, Jesus was able to do what v20 talks about, bring reconciliation.
I’ve told y’all before about how the punishment depends on who the crime is against.

Reconciliation – when two people who were at odds with each other are brought back together
Ladies, think about when your friends snaps your boyfriend… Guys, think about when your buddy shuts off your XBox when you’re about to get a victory royale…
To be reconciled to God, we must believe in Jesus.
That He is God and man, and that He shed his blood in our place to gain this peace with God the Father for us.
Jesus makes peace, brings reconciliation, through his blood on the cross, but why did it have to be this way?
Because of our sin.
So God is rightfully angry about our sin, though He is also heartbroken over it.
Jesus’ death offers forgiveness for our sins.
We must seek forgiveness of our sins through Jesus.

We are sinful, and apart from Christ, vs21 is about us.
Maybe that’s a little offensive to you.
If so, I’m sorry, but you need to just accept it!
Romans 3:10
We must accept this before we can accept that we need Jesus.
But why does sin mean He has to die?
Sin is in direct opposition to God’s character and to his plans for us.
As our Creator, He has the right to make plans for us.
So God is rightfully angry about our sin, though He is also heartbroken over it.
God is just, and justice demands that wrong doing be punished.
So if God did nothing to punish sin, He would not be just.
But He loves us too much to not provide a way for us.
So Jesus came to shed his blood for us.
Sin demands blood be shed, so it’s ours or his.
We know we have these if we continue in faith.
