The woman knew her fate the moment she was discovered - there was no appeal process
If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.
In it, we see God’s opinion of sin:
It’s dangerous
It’s contagious
It’s Irredeemable
Sin had to be cut out, like a disease without a cure so it wouldn’t infect all of Israel
Somewhere along the way the Pharisees stopped recogniz
The law was given as a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ -
The purpose was to show our need for help
There are none righteous, no not one
All have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God
We could never live up to God’s perfection and holiness of our own strength
The woman was her sin in the eyes of the Pharisees
The world has not come very far since then
We are still labeled as our condition:
Alcoholic
Addict
Cancer
The world does not see you as a person, they see you as your mistake/decision/condition
The reasoning goes, if you can’t change - why fight it?
Because of this the Pharisees had no problem turning the woman into nothing more than a trap for Jesus
They had perceived his actions as an attempt to change or get rid of the law
He never says the scripture is wrong
It’s dangerous
He never says the sin doesn’t deserve death
It’s contagious
He had an atoning sacrifice in store
It’s Irredeemable
A lamb without spot or blemish could become the substitute for the people, dying in place of their sins
There’s nothing you can do on your own to earn salvation
“Good enough” isn’t good enough - Nicodemus and Jesus

John said “Behold the lamb of God who comes to take away the sins of the world”
There’s only two beings who truly understand the worth of a soul - God and Satan
That’s why Satan won’t stop at anything to destroy it
God won’t stop at anything to save it
You might not understand the worth of your soul anymore, but loves you so much he did this for you:

Even if no one else had been saved, or received what he gave here, he still would’ve died for you.
How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
That tug you’re feeling, that emotion that I can see welling up in some of you is called conviction - it’s God tugging on your heart that you might connect with him and let go of the sin of this world.
“Good enough” isn’t good enough - Nicodemus and Jesus
When Peter preached on the day of Pentecost, and the crowd felt that same thing you’re feeling now they asked him ‘What shall we do?’

Peter responded - Acts:238
