Cost of discipleship

We are ask to Follow Christ in prayer

An effective prayer life is necessary in the life of the disciple.

Why don’t people pray?

People don’t
++Recognize the purpose
++Understand it’s Power
Luke 9:23–24 KJV 1900
23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and wtake up his cross xdaily, and follow me.
23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and wtake up his cross xdaily, and follow me.
24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

What are you in pursuit of?

Are you pursuing Christ?
A person in pursuit
++Stays focused on the goal.
++Live for the goal
++Work for the goal
++Give to the goal
Most people set goals based upon
++Personal comfort
++Adds Value
++Benefit Attached
Jesus speak of a goal
++Is not for the person
++Activates a person
++A more noble pursuit.
Luke 10:27 KJV 1900
27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
Our goal is to come after him
Our goal is to come after him
++With all Heart
++With all Soul
++With all Mind
++With all Strength

How do we do this?

To come after him
++We must deny our self
++Take up our cross
++Follow him
In the book strong enough to last
Four influences for a Godly Faith
++Family of Faith
++Christian Mentors
++Early ministry involvement (by age 10)
++Church defined as cool
Most are done relatively well

The one thing lacking

The one thing that hinders our effectively touching the next generation
Research showed
++Fully commCommitted
“In most churches it is the willingness for volunteer leaders to give themselves sufficiently to become mentors to the next generation.”
Luke 10:27 KJV 1900
27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
We are compelled to love our neighbor as our self.
The problem is not that we don’t love ourselves.
We love ourselves so much that their is little room for others
Luke 9:24 KJV 1900
24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
The World ask "What's in it for me?"
Love not the world
The World ask "What's in it for me?"
We must guard our hearts from this attitude
John 15:5–6 KJV 1900
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
Even in the body of Christ there is a what’s in it for me mentality.
If what we do for Christ is only about what we receive we are missing the real meaning of serving him.
5 I am the vine, fye are the branches: eHe that abideth in me, and I in him, the same gbringeth forth much fruit: for ||without me ye can do nothing.
5 I am the vine, fye are the branches: eHe that abideth in me, and I in him, the same gbringeth forth much fruit: for ||without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and his withered; and imen gather them, and ijcast them into the fire, and ithey are burned.
We must
++Abide in Christ
++Take our refuge in Him
++Find our hope in Him
A fruitful prayer life
++Is dependent on this connection alone
++Pray has always been family business.
John 15:20 KJV 1900
20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
20 Remember the word that I said unto you, mThe servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, nthey will also persecute you; oif they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

Luke 14:26–27 KJV 1900
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
26 eIf any man come to me, and fhate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and ghis own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

Galatians 2:20 KJV 1900
20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
