"FOLLOWING MOSES, FINDING JESUS"
"INCREASE & OPPRESSION" (EXODUS 1:1-14 & 2:1-10)
OUTLINE STYLE: INDUCTIVE DEVELOPMENT
INTRODUCTION:
1. (01 SLIDE) INCREASE & OPPRESSION
a) Are you okay with God being in control?
b) What about when oppression comes? And He doesn't rescue you?
c) God is Sovereign (He was, is and always will be in control!)
2. SERIES INTRO - "FOLLOWING MOSES, FINDING JESUS"
a) The Exodus account foreshadows the greater Gospel story.
b) We'll read large sections of Scripture in this series. (But not all of it!)
c) If possible, pre-read passages. (Weekly reading schedules at back!)
TEACHING - FOLLOWING MOSES:
3. (02 VERSE SLIDES) EXODUS 1:1-14 & 22
a) (03 SLIDE) How did Israel get into Egypt? (Joseph - Gen. 37-50)
b) (04 SLIDE) Increase - Fertility in ancient world vs. the modern West.
Ø The more they're oppressed, the more they increase!
c) Bondage - Too many people to control without force!
4. (05 SLIDE) EXODUS FORETOLD (GENESIS 15:13-14)
Ø 13 Then the Lord said to Abram, “Know for certain that your offspring will
be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and
they will be afflicted for four hundred years. 14 But I will bring judgment on
the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great
possessions."
5. (06 VERSE SLIDES) EXODUS 2:1-10
a) (07 SLIDE) A Saviour is given!
i) Despite oppression and opposition, God's sovereignty remains.
ii) Earthly powers try to kill the Saviour, but God's sovereignty remains.
APPLICATION - FINDING JESUS:
6. (08 SLIDE) OUR OPPRESSION, OUR SAVIOUR & OUR INCREASE
a) All humanity is under the bondage of sin.
b) God provides a Saviour, also born under the threat of death.
c) Whenever the church is oppressed, it increases!
Ø Exodus points to the greater story of the Gospel!
CONCLUSION: IDEA
7. (09 SLIDE) GOD IS SOVEREIGN
a) He was sovereign over the increase and oppression of Israel.
b) He was sovereign over the increase and oppression of the early church.
c) He is still sovereign over our increases and oppressions.
Ø As a church and personally, we are part of the greater story!
d) (10 SLIDE) Romans 8:28
Ø And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good,
for those who are called according to his purpose.
