This past week our teams learned about having courage. The scripture passage that they learned is:
3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
The author of these words is a man by the name of David and he had learned when he was afraid, that if he put his faith in God, there was really nothing to be afraid of.
David knew that it is always difficult to stand up for what is right and pure and true.
Elsewhere in Bible, we learn that when David was young, he had an experience that would change his life forever.
You may have heard the story of Goliath. When David was a young boy, he was sent to take food and provisions to his brothers who were serving in the army. But when he got there, a warrior in the opposing army was taunting the Israeli people and making fun of their God. He was challenging anyone who would accept to a one on one duel. Winner takes all!
no one would dare go again this giant. But David wasn’t going to let anyone talk his God like that. He volunteered to take this giant out.
When no one else was willing to stand for what is right, he did. tells us how it went down. Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. (ESV)
46 This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. ( ESV)
Have you ever gone with the crowd when you knew you weren’t doing the right thing?
Have you ever been the first one to do the right things?
How does it feel to go along with others as they do the wrong things?
How does it feel to stand up for what is right even if you are the only one standing?
David’s was brave when others weren’t. His trust was based on his faith in God. And God showed up!
