Review

Joshua is a book of pictures or types for spirit filled believers. We always want to be asking ourselves how does this relate to Jesus and how does this apply to me. Otherwise it is just history.
That said, How Voes the name Joshua serve as a type?
What does the crossing of the Jordan symbolize?
What are the Anakim, and what do they picture in our lives?

Positional vs Practical

“Joshua took the whole land”
But practically their were battles to fight, giants to defeat, and land to possess.
Our Jesus has also taken the whole land positionally. He has conquered death and sin’s effects.
We still in a practical way have battles and Giants as well.

12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

Vs 12 is practical
Vs 13 is a positional benefit of salvation.

Kings Conquered under Moses

Vs 1- 6 Talks about what happened on the East side of the Jordan prior to entering the PL.
Sihon King of the Amorites
Vs 4 - 5 tells of Og king of Bashan. Og was a Giant. see .
Video - Og King of Bashan 3 minutes
2 and 1/2 tribes are give this land East of the Jordan. What can this mean to you and me? I will come back to this.
Vs 7 - 24 speak of the Kings conquered under Joshua’s leadership.
Vs 24 tells us that 31 kings were conquered but notice their names are not listed. Why? In a word they are not important to us, although they were in their day.
Aside, have you ever gone to a cemetery and just looked at all the grave stones and wondered about the lives lived by those buried there? They are nearly all forgotten. Only those written in the Lambs book of life have eternal significance.

Vs 1 “Joshua was old, and advanced in years” God tells it like it is.
Much land was yet to be possessed. God had promised and given all of it to Israel, they just needed to possess it. See
Didn’t we just read that Joshua had taken the “whole Land”. No contradiction here, positionally Israel owned it, practically they had to possess it.
We also as believers have been given many great and precious promises but because of unbelief or sin we have not realized them yet.
Vs 7 tells us that God Himself will drive out the inhabitants.
Divide by lot. Literally - to cast down as in dice. So what about gambling and games of chance? It all over the OT and even once in the book of Acts but never mentioned after the HS is given.
Question: How many tribes are there in Israel? How many sons did Jacob have?
Notice we have 9 and 1/2 settling the PL on the west side and 2 and 1/2 on the East side.
This section deals with lots falling on the East Side to Gad, Reuben, and the half tribe of Manasseh.
What was the motivation for staying outside of the promised land?
Financial, good for their cattle, and Fleshly mostly. The whole purpose from back in Egypt was to go to the promised land.
What does this tell us in type? Crossing over is the 2nd baptism in type but God wont force you to come in.
History tells us they were the first tribes to fall and be taken by the Assyrians. We should want all of Jesus that we can get.
