We are dedicating the month of April to missions. A mission is any task entrusted to a person or to a group. The entrusting person expect the entrusted to perform it faithfully. Every Christian has received a mission given by Christ: making disciples of all nation by spreading the gospel of Jesus and baptizing those who believe in Him.
Every mission has a reason or purpose. This psalm describes several reasons for our mission. We must carry out our mission because:
People must hear about God’s glory.
People must hear about God’s glory.
“Tell of His glory among the nations,” 3a
We must tell them about His greatness.
We must tell them about His greatness.
The world has the wrong ideas about God. They do not realize that He is the Almighty God, not a little God. That why they refer to Him as “Diosito”. He is not just one among many, as the Greek believed; He is the Sovereign and only King: “Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns” (10a)
His greatness is such that demands that He be praised: “For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised;” 4
Let’s tell this world about the splendor, majesty, strength, and beauty that belong only to the Lord.
He is the only true God and, therefore, above all gods “He is to be feared above all god. For all the gods of the people are idols.” 4b-5
We must tell them about His deeds.
We must tell them about His deeds.
“Tell of His wonderful deeds among all peoples.” 3b
Wonderful deeds are miracles. Miracles are real.
In this secularized world, people deny that miracles are possible. Let’s tell them about the miracles He has done in our lives: salvation, regeneration, protection, provision, healings, and many more.
Let’s tell them about the preservation of Israel and the believers...
Creation, the Universe, is one of His great deeds, but people must acknowledge Him as the Creator. Missions are to tell this world that God is the Creator.
People must acknowledge the Creator.
People must acknowledge the Creator.
“The Lord made the heavens.” 5
The world does not exist by itself.
The world does not exist by itself.
The world does not exist by itself.
The world does not exist by itself.
In the foolishness of their sin, people believe that the world exists by chance, or as the result of a cosmic explosion. They cannot explain what exploded or where the explosive came from.
Missions exists because people must know that “the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them:” () “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” () He said it and it was done!
That He said it and it was done!
If people would just acknowledge that, that would be enough reason to praise Him, to “ascribe to the Lord glory and strength, to ascribe to the Lord glory of His name;” (7-8)
People must know not only that He created the world, but also that He sustains His Creation.
He sustains the Creation.
He sustains the Creation.
“the world is firmly established, it will not be moved;” 10b
The Bible describes Jesus, the center of the gospel, as creator and sustainer of the creation: (slide)
For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
Col 1:16-
The main purpose of any mission is to exalt God, in this case as the King of the Universe, the Creator and sustainer.
Missions also exist because people need salvation.
People need salvation.
People need salvation.
“Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.” 2
Man has sinned and offended a holy God. The wages of sin is death, physical and eternal; man needs salvation because no matter how many good deeds he may make, he cannot save himself: (slide)
No man can by any means redeem his brother Or give to God a ransom for him—
He needs a perfect savior! Jesus is the Savior! But the gospel is the mean God uses to announce the Savior and offer His salvation.
The gospel is the mean to salvation.
The gospel is the mean to salvation.
The gospel is good news! Religion is not the mean! The Jews had religion, but they were not saved. That’s why Jesus went through cities and villages proclaiming the gospel
Our mission start by announcing, giving the message, that salvation is available thru Jesus Christ to all who believe.
We cannot stop preaching the gospel.
We cannot stop preaching the gospel.
His salvation must be proclaimed “from day to day”.
Because the order is been given by Jesus to all His disciples:
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
Mar 16L15
The N.T. believers took to heart this “from day to day” proclamation:
And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they kept right on teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.
We cannot stop preaching the gospel...
We cannot stop preaching the gospel because every person, in every corner of the earth, must listen the message before the end comes. Jesus made it clear when the disciples asked Him about the end. He responded saying,
Because every person, in every corner of the earth, must listen the message before the end comes. Jesus made it clear when the disciples asked Him about the end. He responded saying,
“Many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He!’ and will mislead many. “When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end. “For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will also be famines. These things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. “But be on your guard; for they will deliver you to the courts, and you will be flogged in the synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them. “The gospel must first be preached to all the nations.
Mar 13:6-10
Missions exists to tell the people that God will judge the earth.
There will be a day of Judgment.
There will be a day of Judgment.
There will be a day of Judgment. 13
There will be a day of Judgment. 13
“He is coming to judge the earth.” 13
No one will escape the judgment.
No one will escape the judgment.
On this verse, the word “earth” is not used to describe the planet, but the inhabitants. The earth has not sinned, its inhabitants have.
People must know that no one will escape such judgment. Rich and poor, old and young, Jews and Gentiles, all will face the Judge on the White Throne. (slide)
And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.
12
His judgment will be impartial.
His judgment will be impartial.
His judgment will be impartial.
His judgment will be impartial.
“He will judge the people with equity.” 10c
Equity: equality, justice, righteousness, impartiality.
God does not show favoritism. To save the believers, He had to send His son Jesus to carry the punishment that sin required. Jesus’ righteousness is applied to those who believe.
When someone listen to the gospel and believes in Jesus, his name in written in the book of life, the book that list those who will not suffer eternal torment: (slide)
Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Rev 20:14-15
The mission is to rescue from the mouth of Hell as many as possible.
Let’s do missions so people may hear about God’s glory and know Him as the Creator; let’s do them because people need salvation and, one day, they will face God’s judgment.
