Jos 1:9. John de Jongh. We are asking the question: "Where does our confidence come from?" Unless and until we find our confidence in the Lord our God, we will always be searching, looking for it. We are never stronger, more courageous, than when we embrace the truth that, in Christ, "the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." (Jos 1:9) During a time of uncertainty and doubt, even as the enemies of God loomed large in the land Israel was about to possess, God provides confidence and strength for Joshua to lead the people forward. In the face of our enemies, God's promise to us is one that we have confirmed in the gospel of our Saviour and Lord. "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." (Heb 13:5)
