Treasure.. tree…spring…
NIV Galatians 6:7-9 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the
one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become
weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Ø This is a year of growth! Yeah why do you keep repeating that? Because I want to plant that in our hearts! I will only grow what I plant. I will only reap what I sow.
Ø What did you sow this week?
o What do you mean? I didn’t sow anything!
o Yes you did. Either on purpose or by default. But you sowed something.
NIV Matthew 12:33 "Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."
Ø Make a tree good… We are not talking about your worth, or if God loves you. In our “produce something or you are worth nothing society” that is what is important.
o The tree is the goal, what the seed is supposed to be. The tree is what will produce the desired fruit. Making the tree.. Good or Bad. How do we do that?
Ø What’s stored up in him?…words are the seeds that we sow and ultimately where we end up. Oh they are just words… Sticks and stones?
NIV James 3:2-12
2 We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check. 3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. 7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8 but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
Ø Treasure.. tree…spring… These are all where the fruit of life will come from!
Ø We cannot control the tongue, but we can control the source.
NIV Proverbs 4:20-26 My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. 21 Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; 22 for they are life to those who find them and health to a man's whole body. 23 Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. 24 Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. 25 Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. 26 Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm.
1. Listen… give your ears to where you are going.
2. keep them in your sight… give your eyes to where you are going.
3. Guard your heart… Pray, and talk to God to get peace to protect your heart. Phil.4:6-7
4. Put away perversity from your mouth distortion, crookedness.. words that will not get you where you want to go.
5. Let your eyes look straight ahead… keep your eyes pointed where you want to end up.
6. Make level paths for your feet.. Don’t add obstacles of your own making.
7. take only ways that are firm
NIV 3 John 1:2-4 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. 3 It gave me great joy to have some brothers come and tell about your faithfulness to the truth and how you continue to walk in the truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
