1 Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man.”
2 Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil.
Genesis 4:1
Eve gives birth for the first time and gives glory to the Lord. Seems that she is very excited and proud.

“his brother” shows that the story is really about Cain.
Genesis 4:3-
3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord.
4 And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering,
5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.

Cain and Abel brought there offering somewhere.
according to scripture we are to bring our offering to the local church

10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

Abel brings exactly what later text ( and ) indicate that God requests of his people.
by offering the firstborn and the best portions, Abel makes the greater sacrifice and reflects a righteous attitude.
God did not “look with favor” on Cain’s offering. Why?
4 By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.
What are you giving to the Lord?
It’s not about the amount, it’s about your heart!
Genesis 4:6-
6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast?
7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
The Lord ask Cain some rhetorical questions to counsel him, not rebuke him.
sin is a predator - you make yourself a target -IT WILL POUNCE!
Cain allowed sin to pounce.
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Show me your bank statement and I’ll show you where your treasure is.
