Rom 10:9-14

9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile-- the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." 14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? (NIV)

Rom 14:6-9

6 He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone. 8 If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. (NIV)

Luke 6:46-49

46 "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? 47 I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete." (NIV)

Matt 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (NIV)

This is the first simple definition of Lordship. Hear his words and either do them or not!

2962  kurios (koo'-ree-os);

from kuros (supremacy); supreme in authority, i.e. (as noun) controller; KJV-- God, Lord, master, Sir.

Matt 4:3-10 our needs over the Lordship of his provision, elevating ourselves above the Lordship of obedience, worship something else for our advantage.

3 The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread."

4 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" 5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: "'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'" 7 Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'" 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."

10 Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'" (NIV)

How does Satan do it today?

1.      If you are the Lord than turn my bad grades into good grades. If God was God then he could do these things for you, why doesn’t he?

2.      Go ahead and do it, it’s not sin today and even if it is He is Love he will forgive you, his mercy is new every morning!

3.      Think of yourself sometime, you have to look out for yourself, go ahead and steal that I mean no one will miss it and the world has so much. Doesn’t the Bible say that all things are yours? (by loving yourself only you are serving the God of this world, you worship him through acts of disobedience)

What the Lordship of Jesus is NOT!

It is not Jesus having to prove to us his power and greatness. Over whelming us with his beauty and superior abilities.

o   We want the Lord to overpower us with AWE! Can he? Of course he can!

o   We are a feeling generation. On the one hand it is a fact that this generation is that way, but in our experience with the Lord and a follower of Christ we are not to live that way. We have become “experience-junkies”!

o   If God were to overcome us with his greatness we would probably serve him but probably not love him. He became like us to relate with us.

o   We live on the edge of sin with God and tempt him to save us. (see Matt 4:6-7)

Matt 4:6-7

6 "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: "'He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'" 7 Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

Lordship is not seeing Jesus as “Our Servant”

o   Jesus fix my bicycle, help me get better grades in school, help me to decide what I should have for breakfast. I will call you when I need you!

o   Lordship here is really servant hood. We let him be our lord as long as we get what we want.

o   Blind Bartemeas, The two blind men(Matt 20:29-34),The man with two sons (Matt 21:28-31)

Lordship is not when we are allowed to interpret what he means!

o    We filter what he says according to our feelings and opinions.

o   He is the same. Always the same!

His Lordship is not affected by our choices, but our lives are!

A simple test for us is:

  1. What controls us the most? If it is Money than Mammon is our Lord, If it is the fear of people or only the desire to please man than Man is our Lord, if it is only to please ourselves than we are our own God!
  2. What do we seek after the most? Hopes, dreams, plans,…
  3. How do we spend most of our time? Free time, thinking time, vacation time,…

Acts 19:13-20

13 Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, "In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out." 14 Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. 15 [One day] the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" 16 Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding. 17 When this became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor. 18 Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed their evil deeds. 19 A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas. 20 In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power. (NIV)

The power in the Name of Jesus will not be released till we submit ourselves under his Lordship. If his lordship is rejected so are the benefits.

2 Tim 2:19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness." (NIV)

Gal 5:13-14

13 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. 14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." (NIV)

1 Pet 2:16 Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. (NIV)

Matt 6:24 "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. (NIV)

Matt 15:22-28

22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-possession."

23 Jesus did not answer a word.

v  Only her need was important!

So his disciples came to him and urged him, "Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us."

v  Here we see that she was willing to get it from anyone!

24 He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel."

v  He insulted her nationality and she kept coming!

25 The woman came and knelt before him. "Lord, help me!" she said.

26 He replied, "It is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs."

v  He called her a dog to see if her pride and self love was greater than her love for her daughter!

27 "Yes, Lord," she said, "but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table."

28 Then Jesus answered, "Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted." And her daughter was healed from that very hour. (NIV)
