When the day of Battle comes what do I do
2 Chronicles 20:14 Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite and descendant of Asaph, as he stood in the assembly. 15 He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. 16 Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel. 17 You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.’”
7 Things you should do in the day of Battle
1. Do not be afraid Fear will never change your circumstances
- Time worries (A lot of our stress is with time. Not enough of it to do all that we think needs to be done today.)
- Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. NIV
- Luke 12:25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? NIV
- Existence worries
- Matt 6:25-33 Food, clothing and shelter (job and money to get all these things)
- Will I survive? Your survival today may not be these things, but your worries may be focused at you inadequacies. Am I enough, smart enough, strong enough, etc…?
· Mark 4:18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.
o A heart full of Fear is like a garden full of thorns. (Fear contaminates out Faith)
§ The worries of this life
§ Come in (that means we can keep them out too)
§ Choke the word, making it unfruitful.
· Isn’t the word of God stronger? Yes but it’s not about what is stronger it’s about what we chose to believe.
· Luke 10:41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” NIV
o Luke 10:39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” NIV
· Worry causes us to believe “God doesn’t care” and that “we are alone”
· But faith knows that we are not alone but God is with and for us.
2 Timothy 1:7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. NIV
Fear will never conquer the enemy it is the anti faith power. The thing you greatly fear will come upon you.
2. Do not be discouraged
Dismayed – Discouraged : to deprive of courage, resolution, and initiative through the pressure of sudden fear or anxiety or great perplexity
This word God is speaking to us when we are in the midst of the battle means:
Don’t be stressed out, don’t be distraught, don’t be in tears, don’t be troubled, and don’t be concerned!
3. The battle isn’t yours! But God’s
- 1 Samuel 17:47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” NIV
- V:17 You will not have to fight this battle.
- Our fight is a fight of faith. 1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. NIV
1 Samuel 17:45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will hand you over to me, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” 48 As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. NIV this takes us to point # 4
4. Take up your positions
· Where is our position? V:16 march down against them
We should be headed straight at the enemy’s location. We should take our place on the front line.
Resist the devil and he will flee, this is a position of resistance. We don’t paste a sign on our backs that the devil reads as we are running away. (sign says I resist you in the name of Jesus.)
o Head to head, nose to nose. Fearless!
o The prayer closet is not the place for the day of battle. The hospital bed, the place of confrontation, the classroom, face the enemy.
5. Stand firm
Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes (not if), you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then,…
Exodus 14:13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” NIV
- \\ 6. See the deliverance the Lord will give you*
- Not just man made ones, but supernatural ones.
- Miracles will begin to happen. We won’t have to talk about the work God used to do. But what he did today!
- \\ 7. Go out to face them tomorrow and the Lord will be with you.
He is with you. The greatest promise given to all that God used for greatness. “I will be with you”*
What did all the men and women that God used in the Bible have in common?
God said the same thing to all of them, including you…. I will be with you!
