Acts 2:2 ESV
And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.
the word for Spirit in Hebrew is wind or breath.

And they were … Spirit and began

Acts 2:4 ESV
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
After waiting and praying for the promised He came and filled them for ministry.
One of those evidences at this time was the ability to speak in foreign tongues not ecstatic utterance.
Acts 2:5 ESV
Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven.
Good Jews who came to celebrate Passover
Who were observers/ participants in the "spectacle" death of Christ (Acts 2:23)
Who in shame beat their chest at the crucifixion (Luke 23:48)

because each one … his own language.

Acts 2:6 ESV
And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language.
We know it was not "the ecstatic Utterances" but know languages. (V.9 -11)

Are not all … are speaking Galileans?

Acts 2:7 ESV
And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans?
The uniqueness of this miracle that lowly hillbillies are speaking foreign languages.
Looking to find a natural to the supernatural. (V12 amazed, perplexed, What does this mean? mocking)

11 both Jews and … works of God.”

Acts 2:11 ESV
both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.”
Everyone present heard in their own language.
The power of the Holy Spirit accomplishes the impossible with the most simple of men.
Acts 2:13 ESV
But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”
Some looked for a natural rather than a supernatural reason

For these people … as you suppose

Acts 2:15 ESV
For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.
This is not a natural occurrence! It is only 9:00 am.
But the supernatural fulfillment of Scripture.
When was the last time you expected scripture to be fulfilled in a supernatural way in your daily life.
Acts 2:16 ESV
But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:
Prior to any events in the New Testament God had already fixed His word by the power of the Holy Spirit to be fulfilled that day!
Acts 2:17 ESV
“ ‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;
Unlike in the Old Testament this time the Holy Spirit will reside permanently.
Acts 2:18 ESV
even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.
These are the signs of the early church.
Cessationism
Continuationism

And it … shall be saved.’

Acts 2:21 ESV
And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’
