We all have a family. We can't aviod them. So we might as well figure out how to live with them. We all want great families. Of course, it's easier said then done… and everyone has an opinion. Culture media, and even other families try to tell us who we should be and how we shoud do it. With so many voices attempting to shape our values, it can be difficult to stay on course and raise famiies that relflect what's most important to us. Whether you're a mom or a dad, a son or a daughter, aunt or uncle, gandma or grandpa, this series will help us all make sure that the people in our lives we call family are well-loved and well-led.

Intro:

In a family sit com the problem is presented and resolved in 22 minutes…
How are you doing? Priorities, Alignment?
We are all in this together!
One of our values at BCC our church family is SERVICE (show pic)
If we are going to go to next level in our relationships we must SERVE.
We demonstrate that we are a Christ follower when we serve people. Jesus brought great clarity...
Matthew 20:26–28 NLT
26 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. 28 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
BUT TO SERVE
Jesus shows up when we serve each other. I’m dying for my husband to come to Christ SERVE him etc...
Martin Luther King quote “everyone can be great”
You want to be a great dad, friend, boss SERVE
Servants shift their expectations.
Ill - Jesus showed up to serve. Wake up every day not expecting to be served but to serve.
Two Attitude That Kill Serving:
I am exempt from responsibility. = Entitlement
Servant don’t run away from responsibility they run to it.
I deserve special treatment. = your job is to make me happy. I deserve happiness. You owe me.
Ill - these two attitudes blow stuff up. Match/Gas
Romans 12:3 NLT
3 Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.
Servants think more about other than themselves. HUMILITY - not thinking less of yourself BUT thinking less about yourself.
Romans 12:1–3 NLT
1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. 3 Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.
Romans 12:1-3
Philippians 2:4 NLT
4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
Philippians 2:4 NLT
4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
Shift I am responsible / I don’t deserve
When we stop focusing on our own needs, we become aware of the needs around us.
Philippians 2:7 NLT
7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form,
Arg: What happens of when someone takes advantage of you.
Matthew 5:41 NLT
41 If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles.
The only really happy people are those who have learned to serve. - Albert Schweitzer
How happy are you. Depression (Hot Seat) Serving will not make you more depressed. Focus on other. Get your eyes off other people.
Not happy with _______________ start serving them. The fewer the expectations you have the happier you will be.
Shift your expectations from getting to giving.
Matthew 20:28 NLT
28 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Servants understand their assignment.
