Your Praise Has Benefits

And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely: 24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.

23 And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. 24 Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. 27 And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. 28 But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.”

29 Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. 34 Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.

Intro

In the world today there are many types of benefits. you have employee benefits, social security benefits, fringe benefits, some of us have even had had friends with benefits. But I want to let you know that your praise has benefits.
Living a life of praise is not only enjoyable, but is also one of the most powerful ways to bring change to your life. In Acts chapter 16 verses 23-26, The author ( Luke ) tells the story of Paul and Silas and how they were arrested for doing the work of the lord. He tells of how they were beaten, and thrown into the deepest darkest dungeon in the jail. The trauma of the beating was not enough. They also were chained and shackled in such a way ,that it caused pain, cramps and loss of circulation. Look at the atmosphere: Dark, Stench ridden, no place for the bodily waste, depression and the moans and groans of all the other prisoners who had been tortured and beat for their crimes. Have you ever been in that place. Some might be in that place right now. But I come to let you know that Paul and Silas had a secret . They Had something that they wasn’t suppose to have. They smuggled in some contraband , some paraphernalia that the other prisoners didn’t know. And at midnight ,in spite of all of all of their infirmities, in spite of their disheartening atmosphere, at midnight Paul and Silas pulled out the key to their escape. They pulled out a praise that shook the prison, flung open the doors, and loosed them and everyone else from the very thing that had them bond.
High five your neighbor and tell them “Your praise has Benefits”.
What is Praise and Worship ?
The English word praise occurs 248 times in the King James Bible translation. Not surprisingly, it shows up most often in the book of Psalms (155+ times). , which is only six verses long, repeats the word thirteen times! The word worship can be found at least 108 times in the KJV, most notably in the book of Psalms and Revelation, where it is found fifteen times each.
Now, let us review a dictionary definition of the words worship and praise.
Webster's Dictionary states that worship is "The act or feeling of adoration or homage; the paying of religious reverence, as in prayer, praise, etc." It can also be "The act or feeling of deference, respect, or honor toward virtue, power, or the like." Praise, as a verb, means "To express approval and commendation of; applaud, eulogize and to express adoration of; glorify (God, etc)." As a noun, the word means "Thanksgiving for blessings conferred; laudation to God; worship expressed in song. 3. The object, ground, reason, or subject of praise."
By comparing the two definitions, we can first see that praise is part of our worship of Almighty God. We express our approval, thankfulness, and respect for Almighty God by offering praises to Him. This kind of thankfulness then becomes part of our worship of the Great God. In such an act, we show our love through obeying His commandments, living the way of life He has revealed through His written word, the Bible, communicating with Him in prayer, meeting and fellowshipping with other believers, and in offering thanks to Him.
When we think of praising God, probably the first thing that comes to mind is singing. There are "praise bands" at church and "praise songs," so we might associate praise with singing. Singing can be a great way to praise God, but it isn’t the only way we can praise Him.
When our friends do something for us and we tell them how helpful they’ve been, we are praising them for what they have done. So when we pray and thank God for all the wonderful things He does for us, we’re praising Him!
When we tell others about how good God has been to us, we’re praising God as we praise Him before other people.
We can also sing praise songs to Jesus that remind us and others of His love, mercy, and salvation. God loves to hear our voices praising Him!
Finally, when we live our lives in the way God wants us to, we are praising God with our actions. There are many temptations that come our way every day, and when people see us choose God’s way instead, it shows others our love and respect of God’s ways.
How Do I Praise God?
We praise God when we say or show how wonderful we think He is.
How can you bring praise to God? What can you do to make it an integral part of your life? Praise can be expressed in song, in verse, or in prayer and it is to be done continuously! instructs, "I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips." says, "From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother's womb. I will ever praise you." Praise to God is expressed outwardly through our everyday actions, as well as inwardly in our thoughts. Praise is an act of Christian worship. "Where do I begin?" you may ask. "How do I start praising God?" If praising God is new to you, try praising God for who He is to you, personally. Proclaim that God's goodness is without measure; it is abundant and overflowing! Here are some ways to get started:
Praise God for His holiness, mercy, and justice (, ).Praise God for His grace ().Praise Him for His goodness ().Praise God for His kindness ().Praise God for His salvation ()Praise to God can be offered anywhere! In time, it will become as normal as taking a breath. Sometimes we praise God inwardly as in , "I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High." Other times we have opportunity to give glory and praise to our God publicly. says, "I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you." Search out opportunities to bring praise to God!

The importance of remembering

Remembering should lead to rejoicing Ps 13:5-6 See also Dt 26:4-11; Ps 66:5-6

Remembering should lead to repentance Rev 3:3 See also Eze 16:59-63; Mt 5:23-24; 26:75 pp Mk 14:72 pp Lk 22:61-62; Rev 2:5

Remembering should lead to understanding Lk 24:6-8 See also Jn 15:20; 16:1-4; Ac 11:15-18

Remembering should produce hope for the future La 3:21-24 See also Ps 42:4-11; 103:1-2; Heb 10:32-36

As we look back to the story of Paul and Silas we find that there place of praise was not one that you would think praising God should happen. But When i think about the goodness of Jesus and all he has done for me my soul cries out Hallelujah , Thank God for saving me.
Thanks be to God who has given me the victory. Remembrance is important element of Praise.
The importance of Remembering.
Tell your neighbor “ Its important to remember”
Its important to remember because before you can thank him, you got think about all the many blessing his has in store you. Before you can praise him you got to Ponder over all the times he made a way out of no way. All the times he showed up when others stepped out. Before you rejoice you got to remember when he healed you body. Remember when that bullet should have took you out , but here I am. I’m still standing.
Give God Some praise
Remembering leads to Rejoicing.
Paul And Silas prayed and praised God in the misted of their circumstance. They remembered all that God had done for them.

5 But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. 6 I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

5  But I have trusted in thy mercy;

gMy heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.

6  I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

Many times giving thanks to God is the last thing we want to do when we are in the mist of a storm. Sometimes the circumstance or situation at that moment doesn’t say lets give God some praise and let sing songs of adoration. If you’re like me and struggle with finding the positive in your negative circumstances, then maybe we should stop searching for the perfect words! Sometimes just speaking the Living Word out loud can spark a spirit of praise within us when we don’t feel like worshiping.

The Message Chapter 15

20  “When that happens, remember this: Servants don’t get better treatment than their masters. If they beat on me, they will certainly beat on you. If they did what I told them, they will do what you tell them.

18 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

Remembering leads to Hope for the future.
Remembering leads to repentance
They remembered that God is faithful and his mercy and compassion will not fall.

19 Remember my affliction and roaming,

The wormwood and the gall.

20 My soul still remembers

And sinks within me.

21 This I recall to my mind,

Therefore I have hope.

22 Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed,

Because His compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning;

Great is Your faithfulness.

24 “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,

“Therefore I hope in Him!”

The Message Chapter 3

19–21  I’ll never forget the trouble, the utter lostness,

the taste of ashes, the poison I’ve swallowed.

I remember it all—oh, how well I remember—

the feeling of hitting the bottom.

But there’s one other thing I remember,

and remembering, I keep a grip on hope:

22–24  GOD’s loyal love couldn’t have run out,

his merciful love couldn’t have dried up.

They’re created new every morning.

How great your faithfulness!

I’m sticking with GOD (I say it over and over).

He’s all I’ve got left.

I never shall forget what the lord has done for. All the times I got in trouble . All the times I messed up. All the times I didn’t do what i was supposed to do. He never gave up on me. His love never ran out. His grace and mercy and his faithfulness is new every morning I wake up. When you can’t count on people , you can always count on God. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever. This means that Jesus is here with you. If He was with the Saints in the Old Testament, helping them, and guiding them, then He is also here today with you doing the very same thing. He is involved in your life every day, today. Right now.He is not a theoretical presence. He is not only a hope for the future.

Remembering leads to repentance
Message - The Benefits Package
As we look back to the story of Paul and Silas we find that there place of praise was not one that you would think praising God should happen
What are some of the benefits of praising God?
Praise kills your Pride
James 4:6 KJV 1900
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Why did Paul and Silas praise God ? They had every reason to be concerned with themselves. Why should I praise God? Praise Kills your Pride. It gets the focus off yourself and onto God -- so you can talk to Him and not at him. We tend to think of ourselves more highly than we ought. The nature of the worship God demands is the prostration of our souls before Him in humble and contrite submission. , tells us, "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up". Our worship to God should be reverent in action. Our praise should be humbling. calls it a “sacrifice of praise.” A Sacrifice: an act of giving up something valued for the sake of something else regarded as more important or worthy. The Apostle Paul said he died daily (). Your Praise puts your Pride, your Flesh to death. It helps you die daily so God is lifted up.
Praise reminds you of your Purpose
Luke 19:40 KJV 1900
And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.
Paul and Silas remembered their purpose . They Remembered that they were crated to praise.

7 Everyone who is called by My name,

Whom I have created for My glory;

I have formed him, yes, I have made him.”

The Message Chapter 43

5–7  “So don’t be afraid: I’m with you.

I’ll round up all your scattered children,

pull them in from east and west.

I’ll send orders north and south:

‘Send them back.

Return my sons from distant lands,

my daughters from faraway places.

I want them back, every last one who bears my name,

every man, woman, and child

Whom I created for my glory,

yes, personally formed and made each one.’ ”

After Jesus performed miracles, the crowd began praising God. The Pharisees wanted to rebuke them, but Jesus said, “If these [people] become silent, the stones will cry out!” () It is essential for the creation to praise the Creator. If you don’t, you’ll worship something else.Worship should cause us to reflect on the majesty and graciousness of God and Christ, contrasted to our own unworthiness. God does not need our worship, but we must worship Him to please Him. God is not insecure but we worship him because of our own insecurities. tells us to, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."Our singing, praying, studying His word, giving, and communion are all designed by God to bring us closer to Him and to cause us to think more like He thinks, thus becoming more like Him. =
Praise Attracts Gods Presence
2 Chronicles 7:1 KJV 1900
Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the house.
2 Chronicles 7:1
When King Solomon dedicated the Temple to God, he offered sacrifices and praised God. God answered by sending fire from heaven. Then His Glory came (). Look at the equation. Sacrifice + Praise = Gods Glory. Praise attracts God’s presence. He is drawn to where He is welcomed. How do you welcome God?
When King Solomon dedicated the Temple to God, he offered sacrifices and praised God. God answered by sending fire from heaven. Then His Glory came (). Look at the equation. Sacrifice + Praise = Gods Glory. Praise attracts God’s presence. He is drawn to where He is welcomed. How do you welcome God?
• When you declare thanksgiving,
• When you clap your hands and shout
• When you praise him on the instruments
• when you sing songs of praise and adoration
• When you make a joyful noise and lift you hands
When you praise you welcome the presence of the Lord. But thou art holy, o thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. God inhabits the praise of his people. This is not just a mere statement to get you sing but is one of God’s principles that only works when you apply it.
Gods presence is manifest through your praise. It repels the presence of the enemy. Your praise to God, with a humble spirit, creates an atmosphere that disgusting to the devil. Lifting up Jesus through praise and worship invokes the presence of God and his power to flow within us. Jesus taught that when two or three are gathered in my name , there I am in the midst. When Jesus is the center, the spotlight, and focus of our assembly, the gathered receives the manifestation of his anointing and glory. When you Praise -The plans of the enemy are disrupted. When you praise -The enemy is thrown into confusion, thrown into disorder and disarray. To the enemy your praise is unsettling, obstructing, and impeding. Your praise will send the enemy into a sunder. Your praise will drastically alter and destroy the structure of the enemies plan.
Praise Bring you to Repentance
Revelation 2:5 KJV 1900
Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
Revelation 2:5
What is Repentance?

A change of mind leading to a change of action. It involves a sincere turning from sin to serve God and includes sorrow for, and confession of, sin and where possible restitution. At points, Scripture refers to God changing his plans in response to events.

27 And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. 28 But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.”

Through their praise, Paul and Silas was able to lead the Keeper of the prison to Jesus. Not only the Head jailer was saved but his family as well.
Repentance is required for fellowship with God. Repentance involves turning from sin.

Invitation prayer
Father, in Jesus Name,
I thank you now for another opportunity that you have allowed me to come before your presence.
I ask you now to forgive me of all of my sins. Forgive me for anything I’ve done or anything I have said that has brought shame to your Holy Name.
I confess with my mouth and I believe in my heart that God has raised Jesus from the dead and He now lives in me.
Thank you Lord that I am saved, and I will serve you for the rest of my life.”
