Theme: The clothes of Jesus in the tomb. Why does John pay so much attention to burial clothes? They represent a signal, a sign. When Mary looks into the tomb she sees an empty tomb, a high priest who was there, who became the sacrifice and folded the clothes. This is our Lord. Then Mary goes out in the garden and she encounters Jesus, but she doesn’t recognize Him, because His clothes are different, He’s wearing gardener’s clothes. Jesus stands in the garden and says, “I get my garden and my people back.” What is resurrection power? It is power to be weak, to give my flesh, my ideas, my dreams over to the one who rose from the dead.
