The Book of Acts

Doctor Luke was the author the book. He moves from his gospel and the need for salvation, to the way the new believer is to live the new life as a child of God. Helping  the Christian to live their life for the savior. Also the Christian is to unity together with other believers where they will find strength.

Personal Application. Acts is a record of practicing Christianity under the power of the Holy Spirit. It teaches believers how to live together in meaningful Christian fellowship, sharing freely with one another (2:42; 4:32–35)[1]

The book of Act according to Lloyd Ogilvie, the first chapter of ACT is the account of what happened between the lightning of the incarnation of Christ and th

e Pentecost.

The main point of Acts:   The Holy Spirit will fill you then you will receive power to be the witnesses of Christ in a world that is lost in its Sin. You will have the confidence to endure the hard times that will come your way because of your witness.

The main point of Acts is to allow the Spirit to fill you so that you will be a witness of Christ.

This book also introduces the Church. What is the Church?

The church is not simply an organization engaged in religious work: it is a divine organism, the body of Christ on the earth, through which his life and power must operate.(wiesbes)

Today we will be looking into the words of Luke so that we can see how we are to live our life in the church that is in the world.

Jesus was going to be put to death and he was telling his disciples in John 14, that once he was no longer with them in flesh that the father would send the Holy Spirit to be their comforter. The disciples would never be left alone. The Spirit would be here for them forever. This also applies to us now. We are not here alone as Christians. 1 By my former book the author undoubtedly means the gospel of Luke. For details about Theophilus see the commentary on Lk. 1:3. If volume 1 is about all that Jesus began to do and teach, the implication is that in this book we will learn about what he continued to do and teach, through the work of his church and the Holy Spirit.

Acts 3:12   study

Peter finds himself ready to preach his second message. When we look at the first seven chapters of Acts the church is in its infancies it had not been given to the world yet. God was getting the disciples ready to be his witnesses. We find Peter focusing all his first messages towards the “man of Israel”. The Jews would first hear the gospel and by the 9th chapter we will see God preparing another man to bring the Gospel to the gentiles. His Name is Paul.

Peter was going to use the crippled mans healing to paint the picture of what God will do to and for Israel.

They should have seen that this lame man was a miniature, a picture of the whole nation. If they would but turn to God, all these promises would be fulfilled.[3]
