Be Alert
The first thing that Paul says in this passage is to “Be Alert”
If you remember, the Corinthian church had been prone to distraction. They were focused on issues tha
The word that Paul uses for “alert” is used 22 times in the New Testament. The word is always used when Christians are either being called to anticipate the return of the Lord or are being called to be watchful of the attack of the devil.
To be alert we have to get rid of distractions:
A Distraction— is something that interferes with your ability to stay focused on something.
Take Responsibility
To be on the alert means that you are focused on what you are supposed to be doing.
I don’t know about you, but I find it really challenging to be focused almost all of the time.
Have you ever been driving down the road looking at your phone almost in an almost comatose state and then get to your destination and wondered if you ran over anyone along the way? That’s distraction.
I know some of you are big time rule followers on the road and you never use your phone while driving (stop judging me…)
What are some of the things that distract us?
How about this: have you ever had really good intentions of being productive and getting things done only to find yourself 3 hours into a new Netflix series? It’s so easy, right? I recently watched
What happened? You got distracted!
To be alert we have to be on guard:
Both of these ideas are in view in this passage as Paul calls the Corinthians, and us, to live a life committed to the Gospel.
