Why Should I Disciple?
Intro: Do you live a life that is worth imitating?
Are you worth following?
Two weeks ago we kicked off a sermon series we titled “CopyCat”.
It’s based on Which says, “imitate me as I imitate Christ.”
Paul declared this, and I think its an example worth following.
Paul wasn’t perfect, he didn’t always have the right answers, so why imitate him?
It’s not because of the state of Paul, but in where he went when he was in trouble.
Even as imperfect as he was, he invites us to imitate him in how he imitates Christ.
We spoke about what a disciple is, last time we met.
Tonight we are going to unpack the truth behind WHY we should disciple.
1.
Because I’m thankful.
a. . .
For the sacrifice: I am so thankful for the sacrifice of the cross that I want others to know that the same sacrifice was made for them.
b. .
For the second chance: God forgives me time and time again, and doesn’t give up on me when I mess up.
b.
I am thankful
2. Because of the sacrifice
c. .
For the opportunity: God gives us an opportunity to serve.
He gives us the opportunity to reciprocate His love for us, by demonstrating that same love.
2. Because He told me to.
a. Obedience and why it’s important ()
b.
If I belong to God, then I do what He says.
()
c.
It has nothing to do with us.
God is and always will be good, and He calls us good.
()
3.
Because this world needs Him.
()
Conclusion:
We disciple because we are thankful.
We disciple because He told us to.
We disciple because this world needs Him.
You don’t need a devotional book to help you with this.
You don’t have to make this so formal.
Its simply you inviting others to copy what you do… What you do when you celebrate, what you do when you’re in trouble, what you do when you’re overwhelmed, what you do when you’re lost.
You know what to do.
Its time to teach others that you don’t have to be perfect to be used.
God desires you and will mold you for His will.
Teach others....
