Two weeks ago we began as series of lessons themed: Open Eyes.
18 Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
The purpose of these lessons was to help our young people get to know God better, by opening their eyes to God through His Word.
As I mentioned last week, the kids all have handouts that they are trying to fill out from these lessons.
I implore each of the adults here, older and younger, to talk with the kids about their handouts and the lesson and better help them and encourage them.
Now, having examined God’s love for us in creation, last week we turned our attention to God in the Scheme of Redemption.
As we mentioned last week this simply means “God’s plan to bring about the perfect time for Christ to come to earth and redeem us.”
Jesus redeemed us by buying us back from Satan with His own blood.
In the Scheme of Redemption we first looked at the genealogies. (expound)
Today I want us to look at the Scheme of Redemption through the Mosaic Period or Mosaic Dispensation.
“During the Mosaic period, God establishes a nation through which He can express His desires for the world. Because of Israel, when Christ came, the world was prepared to understand who God is and what He would expect.” (From Moses To Jesus https://goo.gl/cXtqud)

A lot of people look at the Law of Moses and think God just gave it to the Israelites to help them be good people.
After all, law teaches us about what things are sin.
7 What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
Romans 7:
The purpose of the Mosaic Law was not just to inform about what sin is, it was to guide the people until Christ came and redeemed.
Gal 2:24
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
24 So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith.
The idea here is that God created the Law of Moses to guide the people and thus prepare the people for Christ and His new covenant or new Law.

Remember when the church started they proved the redemption of sin by Christ through the Old Law.

There are prophecies about the Messiah.
Isaiah 53:
4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
There are prophecies about the new covenant.
Jer 31:31-
31 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. 33 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
There are prophecies about the preparation of the Messiah i.e. John the Baptist.
3 A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 “Remember the law of my servant Moses, the statutes and rules that I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel. 5 “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.

1 “Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts.

There are prophecies about the church.
44 And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever,
10 “And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, Who shall stand as a banner to the people; For the Gentiles shall seek Him, And His resting place shall be glorious.”

The Encyclopedia of Biblical Prophecies lists 1,239 Old Testament prophecies, and though this encompasses those not during the Mosiac Period, it demonstrates God’s determination to bring about the redemption of mankind.
