Can you imagine being Peter and John in this moment? Brought on trial before the Sanhedrin. Remember the last time they had dealings with the rulers of Rome? I bet they did....the last time they walked a road like this Jesus was sentenced to be crucified. That had to be in the back of their minds.
After all, they had done a good thing for a needy person. They were standing before the Sanhedrin for healing a crippled man.
Peter had already proclaimed the name of Jesus publically- 3:12-16
Peter seems to give a sarcastic answer to their question.
This is not just about physical healing- Peter connects the physical healing with salvation.
When it comes to the power of Jesus’ name it is either accept or reject
Psalm 118:22 ESV
The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.
The only power Peter has is the power to honor the name of Jesus- where the power of healing comes from.
