Doxology
Addressee Honor Duration Response
2 Peter 3:18 ESV
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
Romans 16:25–27 ESV
Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith— to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen.
Rom 16:25-27
Mart. Pol. 22:3

3 And I, again, Pionius, wrote it out from the former writings, after searching for it, because the blessed Polycarp showed it me in a vision, as I will explain in what follows, and I gathered it together when it was almost worn out by age, that the Lord Jesus Christ may also gather me together with his elect into his heavenly kingdom, to whom be glory with the Father and the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever, Amen.

1 Clement 65:2
Lake’s Apostolic Fathers in English Message as to Roman representatives

2 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you and with all, in every place, who have been called by God through him, through whom be to him glory, honour, power and greatness and eternal dominion, from eternity to eternity. Amen.

I. Now To Him Who is Able

A. To keep (to keep or watch out for, keeping guard) you from stumbling

John 17:11 ESV
And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one.
john 17
John 17:15 ESV
I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.
John 17:15
2 Thessalonians 3:3 ESV
But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.
2 Thess
1 Peter 1:15 ESV
but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
1 Pet 1
1 Peter 1:5 ESV
who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Revelation 3:10 ESV
Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth.
I read a book in college called Responsible Grace it was about the practical theology of John Wesley, I didnt agree with everything in the book, but i hijacked the phrase because I think it highlights how God keeps us in his grace. we are responsible to “remain in His love” and yet at the same time God keeps us from stumbling, how? The disciplines we are to develop to remain in his love, through the power of the Spirit, are means of grace God uses to keep us from falling.
2 Peter 1:10 ESV
Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.

B. To present you blameless before the presence of his glory

1. Notice the standing falling language

2. This is OT sacrificial language

Exodus 29:1 ESV
“Now this is what you shall do to them to consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests. Take one bull of the herd and two rams without blemish,
exo 29:1
Hebrews 9:14 ESV
how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
Ephesians 1:4 ESV
even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love
Ephesians 5:27 ESV
so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.

3. With Great Joy

a. not a private joy but a public joy

Luke 15:7 ESV
Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

b. a public party for completion

1 Peter 4:13 ESV
But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.
Revelation 19:7 ESV
Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready;

c. but i think not only are we joyful but it brings God great joy

Luke 15:10 ESV
Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

He brings us into his presence

With love and joy.

All power, authority, all splendor,

And majesty are his from the beginning

And evermore and evermore.

And now all glory to You;

You alone are God.
