3 Comments about Rest

#1 God Sees it as Holy

Hebrew word for “rest” is Sabat => Sabbath
God sets the pattern
He commands us to fall in line
Exodus 20:8 NKJV
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Exodus 16:23 NKJV
Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.’ ”

#2 Is it for the Jews only

could be argued sabbath is for them.
rebutal: how can you say that when God did it before He ever called Abraham!!!
Deuteronomy 7:7–8 NKJV
The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but because the Lord loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
Deuteronomy 14:2 NKJV

deut 7.
1 Peter 2:9 NKJV
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
We push against American culture. Our arrogance and/or drive to succeed should never trump the established will of God
Real talk, there are 2 arguments…one side says no need to rest, the other says you must rest

#2 There has been a conjoining, even hard to differentiate between doing nothing and being with God

Rest to worship and chill
rest to connect with God
Which is right? Or do I cycle between the two?
Isaiah 40:31 NKJV
But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
I had a friend that set aside Friday nights to sit at his desk and would wait to hear from God
There have been times I’d gather the leaders and we’d wait to hear God
These clearly aren’t illustrations of how to rest but they clearly show that when we wait, He does His thing!
Isaiah 28:11 NKJV
For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people,
Discussion:
How has the teaching landed?
After 10 weeks on rest, Is there anything any different about/with you?
Biggest take away?
