 Two Friends

(Proverbs 27:9-10)

(1 Samuel 18:1-4)

Intro:   I have found, in our world, ones friends will stay close by and be with you through thick and thin. And our friends need us also in there time

(The only way to have a friend is to be one)

Today we will start our talks on the relationships we are to have with our friends.

Have you found that life without friends can be lonely existents?

“Life without friendship is like the shy without the sun”

God put people in our circles of influence. Some of these will be close friends and some of them will friends from a distance. You will see that all those that God brings into your life will be those that you will need to make it through all the difficulties of this life.

Life will not always be hard and your friend will stay by your side no matter what comes your way.

A friend is one that knows everything about you and loves you anyway.

Aim: I hope you will see that God places people around us, some of these will become close friend, and some will be associates. On matter that they are, you will have the opportunity to show they love.

The bible if full of stories about friends and their relationships during our, this morning I will focus on the friendship of David and Jonathan.

What a way to start a relationship. The son of Jesses the youngest of his son finds himself face to face with the number one enemy of the King. God gave David a supernatural dose of strength to stand and defeat the giant from philistines Goliath.

I. How are we to be Friends?

1. Be a friend

a. One of the reasons that we do not have friends is because we are not willing to take the risk.

2. Be a reconciler, Look at Jonathan and his friendship with David

a. The circumstances were at there worst. (1 Sam 18:1-4)

b. He found him face to face with his Father ask for his friends protection.

Question: Can your friends count on you?

c. Jonathan won the favor of his father for a little while. (1 Samuel 19:4-5)

3. Be a protector of your friend

a. Jonathan was up to bat for David again (1 Sam 20:13

 -Prov. 18:24 -
A man that has friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.

b. We may never get to the place, that we will find it necessary to protect our friends.

c. However, some of our friends will find themselves in sin then we will need to be there for them.   (proverbs 16:25)

They will need us to be there for them.

II. The greatest friend mankind will have

1. Who is this friend?

Jesus

a.  look at the new testament

(john 15:12-17)

b. Jesus the friend of the sinner

he called us friends

And if look at his live we will see that he followed the patternwe found in Jonathan

1. Willing to be a friend to the sinner

2. Became the reconciler of the ones in sin

3. Jesus is the protector of his friends

Matt 28:18-20

He will never leave us as some so called friends

Con:

If we are not will to love our friends and help those when they down what kind of friend are we.

We have seen through Jonathan although he was just a man and could not ultimately save David he stays with him.

Then we looked at the friend Jesus. Who is able to save us and will never leave us or forsake us even though he knows us for who we are?

Who would say no to that friend? Unfortunately too many have said no to the friend that will never leave or forsake them.
