The Family
The Family relationships
Matthew 5:20-25
Intro: The Home is to be the training grounds for the way to have right relationships. Today we do not need to look very far to find that or family relationships are in a mess.
God intended for the home to be the example of the relationship between the father and the church. The bad relationship and the unresolved issues that have been hanging around in the family have stopped the flow of the fruit of the spirit.
“However, Christ was not speaking of these kinds of things in our text today. Rather he is dealing with the case where a brother or sister knows there is a problem in a relationship that cannot be covered or forgotten, and in those situations, loose ends need to be tied up and taken care of. Unresolved problems sap the strength out of a relationship, out of any relationship. When problems go unresolved in a church, they grow and hinder the church’s effectiveness. They tear families apart and cause even more problems. There is therefore, no place for loose ends. God insists that every personal difficulty that arises be settled. Whatever comes between Christians must” ( sermon on Matthew). What must we do to fix this problem?
Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading
1. we must be able to hear the spirits voice.
The person who can listen to the spirit will see those problem areas and will go and make it right with the person.
A. This person was at the temple
Ready to make the offering and the spirit of God begins to speak to his mind.
You have something against your brother or they have something against you.
WE MUST BE SENSITIVE TO THE SPIRIT, why
\\ Be mindful of what is at stake
Here we have the principle of the Law of the Harvest at work. The Law of the Harvest simply says in Galatians 6:7 that whatever you sow you will reap. "He that sows to the flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting." So Paul said, "let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we don’t give up."
Well how does that apply to the principle of reconciliation? It works like this: in every human relationship you are going to sow only one of two things – either things of the flesh or things of the Spirit
IF WE SAY NO TO THE SPIRIT AND DON’T RECONCILE WITH OUR BROTHER-(NOW THE WORD HERE CAN MEAN ANYONE).
IN OUR CIRCLES OF INFLUENCE
Or worship will be hinder and those that need to be saved will not see the love of God.
If we turn our nose up and say “when they get it right I will give forgiveness or I’m just fine with the problem and I will not do anything to fix it it’s their problem.”
You can’t worship God and hate your brother. There can not be issues between you and those in your family that you are not willing to go to them and give and receive forgiveness. Today we are here at church and your worship to god is either being accepted or rejected basic on your willingness to forgive or receive forgiveness.
To many times we have forgotten that those in our family need to be saved and god saved you for them.
