Facing Temptation

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Temptation comes into every believe’s life, No one is exempt.

Temptation is not the sin, the sin is when you give in to the temptation.

James 1:12 NKJV

Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

But God does not leave His people to deal with satan’s whim’s.

God is faithful, He will not always remove temptation, remember that facing and remaining strong in your temptation is helping you grow.

However, God does promises to keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t withstand it.

He also gave us some promises to overcome temptations.

I. The Power to tread on evil forces

Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Satan will try to discourage you, make you want to give in. But we have been the authority over the powers of the enemy.

II. Safety through Intercession

And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”

Describes Satan Role in the upcoming difficulties for all disciples, but especially Peter, or soon to face. Satan ask to shift like wheat, meaning a severe trial.

Words are just like when Satan asked God for permission to test Job (; ). Satan wanted to crush Simon Peter any other disciples and grind them up like grains of wheat.

But Jesus assured Peter then although his Faith would falter, it would not be destroyed,

But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.”

Jesus prayed for faith, not the removal of the test. He knew Peter would fail; yet He was confident of His turning back, and also understood that Peter facing this trial would strengthen him and Peter would be able to strengthen fellow believer.

The book of 1 Peter deals entirely with the encouragement for believer who are undergoing trials and difficulties. Peter became a source of strength for many.

III. The bruising of the serpent’s head

And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

False teacher and other servants of satan will try to sow discord in the church, in your life but God is the God of peace. All that causes turmoil and any other things that discourage or temp the children of God to turn away from Him will be destroyed when Christ returns to establish His Peace.

rev 20:1

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. IV. A way to Escape

1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV

God promise to show you a way out so that you will not give in to temptation and fall into sin.

It takes self-discipline to look for that way out, in the middle of your temptation and then to take it once it’s found.

The way out isn’t usually easy and often requires the support of others.

Ways out of temptation

common sense ( if you know, stay away)

don’t deal with it alone ( ask for support from a christian friend)

The truth is God loves us people so much that He protects us from unbearable temptation, and will aways give us a way out.

V. In The Hour of Temptation

Hebrews 2:18 NKJV

For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

Jesus understands our weakness, because in His human body He even experience suffering and temptation and I not just talking about on the cross.

satan tempted Him in the wilderness

the drop of blood shed in prayer before crucifixion.

having gone thru temptation Jesus is able to help us when we are being temped.

VI. Victory Over Temptation

rev 3:

Revelation 3:10 NKJV

Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.

the word trial has the same meaning as

Matthew 6:13 NKJV

And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Jesus prayed in

matt 6:

John 17:15 NKJV

I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.

But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.

Temptation shouldn’t ever drive a wedge between believers and God, Instead it should drive you to worship, us thanking God for trusting you that much.
