The believers in Rome were a group of people who had come from different places, they had different experiences, and different viewpoints. What Paul was addressing in these last few chapters of this book was the threat of these differences upon the unity and edification of the church and its mission. One such issue was that of eating meat that had been sacrificed to idols. Paul calls them those who are weak in faith; he says, don’t look down on them, bear with them. His statement in verse one begs the question of what kind of believer each of us will be: Will we be the weak or will we be the strong?
