YOU ARE PRE-QUALIFIED!
(insert illustration)
God pre-qualified us through an old covenant (Gen12:1-3)
All families will be blessed through you!
In other words able to receive the pre-qualification notice
Think of the solicitation you receive saying you are pre-qualified, then it says to apply for, doesn’t it?
(expand on this) due to the work of the Father we are pre-qualified.
Col1:
How were we pre-qualified?
When where we pre-qualified?
Why were we pre-qualified?
What benefits come from the pre-qualification?
We should know our qualification only comes through Jesus, and we will look at what we have
In Him
By Him
Through Him
For Him
I.
In Him
Our qualification was made possible through the Father (v.12) but now lets look at what we have In Him
We have our rescue (v.13; Rom3:23, 6:23)
(expand on what we were rescued from)
Penalty of sin
Rom
We have our transfer (v.13; Eph1:3-6)
We have our transfer (v.13)
(expand on transferred from darkness into the Light)
What Light?
The Light of the Beloved Son!
Blessed us at the transfer
Chose us in Him
Chose with a purpose, to be holy, blameless (expand)
Adopted us according to the kind intention of His will
To the praise of His glory, by grace freely given in Christ Jesus.
We have our redemption (v.14; 1Jn3:14; 1Cor6:20; Col3:13; Eph1:7)
Our redemption, buy back, from death to life (1Jn3:14; 1Cor6:20)
Redeemed from the penalty of sin, in other words the forgiveness of sins (Col3:13; Eph1:7)
Passed from death to life!
We were bought by the precious blood of Christ, so glorify God in your body
By bearing with one another, forgiving one another
Because of the riches of His grace!
By the redemption we have been set from from the penalty and the power of sin.
For sin is dead now
ROm6:
Not from to sin, freed from the power of sin so not to sin
We need to know the truth of what we have in Him so we are not easily deceived (Eph5:6)
So now we know what we have “in” Him, let us look at what we have “by” Him.
II.
By Him
When we understand what we have “in” Him; then we can appreciate what we have “by” Him
Col1:15-16
By Him; for He is the image of the invisible God (v.15-16; Heb1:3; Rom1:20)
He is the image of the invisible God; God in the flesh.
in the Phillip’s translation it says “Christ is the visible expression of the invisible God”
By Him; for he is the firstborn of all creation (v.15)
First born is first place in primacy, sovereignty
This is the place of supremacy that leads us to understand His authority.
By Him: for He is the Creator of all things; sustainer of all things (v.16-17;
Jn1:3, 14)
He is the Creator, the sustainer and he is the head of the body the church.
Eph5:23 is a good parallel to this
He is the head of the body, He is before all things, He is the firstborn from the dead.
Others have risen before, only to die, but Christ rose again to live so that we can have life through Him and in Him.
Col3:4
By Him: All things are reconciled (v.20); why? (v.19)
By Him: All things are reconciled (v.20); why? (v.19)
Reconciled with a purpose
Here is the how, by the Father, the why is:
and the means
in Him, through Him and for Him ; all things are reconciled; all by the blood that was shed on the Cross.
That brings us to the results of what we get through Him
III.
Through Him
Think about what we have “in” Him; that leads to what we receive “by” Him and that brings us to the results we get “through” Him.
We who were once alienated, hostile, engaged in evil deeds (vv.21-22;
Eph2:11-13)
There are many passages that tell us who we were, but let me just give you the parallel
We were in our mind, evil in our behaviors
We were enemies in our mind, evil in our behaviors
But God at the right time since the Christ while we were still enemies
Through HIM we are reconciled!
Holy, blameless, beyond reproach (v.22)
Through HIM we are reconciled!
Holy, blameless, beyond reproach (v.22)
Through Him we are reconciled and we have a peace that surpasses all understanding/comprehension; It is the peace of Christ that helps us in our present standing here with our hope of what is yet to come.
Because of our hope that is yet to be revealed we can strive to be holy, blameless and beyond reproach
IV.
For Him
Know you have been pre-qualified, transferred, In Him you have been redeemed and reconciled.
We now have the words of encouragement
Paul is encouraging them to stay firmly established and steadfast
Expand on the above (hard times, good times, all times)
Don’t be moved away from the hope of the Gospel
Don’t be easily swayed or moved away from the hope of the Gospel
Expand on this, remember you hope
(below on handout not on slide, not to be said) - - - - lead to invitation
So what are you going to do with the all things we have in Christ Jesus?
Invitation:
Remember the pre-qualification?
If you receive it you have to apply it to receive the benefits of the pre-qualification.
