Hebrews 13:20–25 KJV 1900
Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words. Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you. Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you. Grace be with you all. Amen.

The God Of Peace

Hebrews 13:20 KJV 1900
Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
What is this peace?
Jesus said...
John 14:27 KJV 1900
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
This peace is different than the peace of the world. The God of peace desires us to have this peace. This is the reason why he disciplines us.
Hebrews 12:11–14 KJV 1900
Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
Also we note that peace and righteous are one in the same. It is the fruit of righteousness which is peaceable. Without righteousness there is no peace.
Romans 5:1 KJV 1900
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
We live in a world of turmoil that is starving for peace. but there is no peace. You cannot have peace with man until you have peace with God and God cannot have peace with sin. Jeremiah warns of false prophets who tell the people that they have peace when there is no peace. A truthful prophet will tell you that there is no peace for the unrighteous. We are all unrighteous but the God of peace has made a way through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 4:23–25 KJV 1900
Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
So now that we have this peace with God he calls us to live in that peace
He calls us to peace
Philippians 4:6–7 KJV 1900
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The Great Shepherd

Hebrews 13:20 KJV 1900
Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
Up until now the apostle had made reference to the work of the resurrected Christ as well as His position at the right hand of God. However, this is the first direct reference to the resurrection in this letter. The resurrection of Christ is the theme of the New Testament. The resurrection was preached by all the apostle because it is the most important event in all of history. The fact that Jesus rose from the grave changes everything.
Then he refers to Christ as that great shepherd of the sheep. Again this is an interesting reference considering that all through the letter to the hebrews the image of Christ has be as out high priest. I would seen logical to stay with that same image here but instead he uses the image of the great shepherd. Jesus is our great shepherd and this is one of the most intimate images of Christ.
John 10:25–29 KJV 1900
Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
He has been pleading with the Hebrews to not abandon the flock and follow another shepherd. He is our good shepherd and we believe in Him because we are his sheep. His sheep hear His voice and they follow Him because He is their shepherd.

The Blood of the Everlasting Covenant

Hebrews 13:20–21 KJV 1900
Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
“through the blood of the everlasting covenant” The is the how. It is by and through this blood that God has made peace with man Becoming know to us as the God of peace it By this blood of the everlasting covenant that Christ has become our great shepherd. and is is by and through this blood of the everlasting covenant that he accomplishes and answers this prayer. This is the new covenant that is made by the blood of Christ and it is eternal because it is the final covenant between God and man. We are in these last days and in these last days God has spoken through his own son Jesus Christ. and all of hebrews has shown that Christ is the fulfilment of all other covenants and that there is no more sacrifice for sin. Jesus dies once and for all. it is also everlasting because it never fails. Jesus never fails, his blood never fails and this covenant that he has made with us never fails. never.

Make You Perfect

Hebrews 13:21 KJV 1900
Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
now we get to the actual request of the apostle prayer. to make us perfect. He prays to the God of peace who through his own power raises Jesus from the dead and has through Christ entered an everlasting covent with us.
His prayer - make them perfect or complete them or equip them in every good work.
This is the work of God in us.

Working In You

Hebrews 13:21 KJV 1900
Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
God is working in you that which is welling pleasing
Philippians 2:12–13 KJV 1900
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

To Whom Be Glory Forever

Hebrews 13:21 KJV 1900
Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Is because of this that we give Him the glory for ever and ever.
As we consider this prayer do you have the peace of God this morning?
Have you heard the voice of the good shepherd?
Have you entered into this everlasting covenant. If not you can do that today. we enter into this covenant through faith. If you know that you are a sinner and there is no hope? Then let me offer you the hope of peace through Jesus Christ.
