Even lawyers are getting in on the act of tripping up Jesus. But, what the lawyer got for his answer was the greatest commandment of all.
#1 Without looking can you recite it? I think most of us can. How do all the laws relate to this commandment?
Without this commandment and the action it requires you can not understand what the Bible teaches - especially if you miss this point.
The commandment is more than a feeling , an act of willpower or a decision. Feelings ebb and flow. We must make intentional decisions to love, when we commit to love God above all else, that love implants itself in the fabric of our being and even in times of trouble and trials it remains. This love is an all consuming love that our fallen nature cannot manufacture. It springs forth from God, from His very Spirit that lives and breathes in us.
#2 Does your life exemplify one who loves God fully or partially?
I don’t think I exemplify this love. I struggle with my base nature all the time. But, by the work of the Holy Spirit I am slowly changing and can feel chastened when the love is not present. I am a work in progress, not a perfected being. Yet, God loves me still.
