Inner peace
Peace in External Turmoil
Peace is a big issue in scripture. But like favor, rest, the anointing, it is under-understood.
Take a moment and type your definition of peace.
2 givens, and the list may grow, 1) He’s the God of peace 2) I’m supposed to have it.
His presence
What can take our peace?
Uncertantity of the future
The Hebrew šālēm (from which comes the familiar Hebrew noun šālôm) literally refers to being uninjured, safe and sound, or whole. The Greek eirēneuō refers mainly to being in political peace.

29 that you will do us no harm, since we have not touched you, and since we have done nothing to you but good and have sent you away in peace. You are now the blessed of the Lord.’ ”
30 So he made them a feast, and they ate and drank. 31 Then they arose early in the morning and swore an oath with one another; and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
15 So Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them to let them live; and the rulers of the congregation swore to them.
App: Is this not the same thing that happens in your house?! You just want the arguing to stop!
Discussion Question:
How do you typically get peace? What habits, ritual, process. If your answer is prayer, explain what you’ve noticed that works. “When I spend a week praying, usually there’s a breakthrough.”

19 So Gideon went in and prepared a young goat, and unleavened bread from an ephah of flour. The meat he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot; and he brought them out to Him under the terebinth tree and presented them. 20 The Angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the unleavened bread and lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth.” And he did so.
21 Then the Angel of the Lord put out the end of the staff that was in His hand, and touched the meat and the unleavened bread; and fire rose out of the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread. And the Angel of the Lord departed out of his sight.
22 Now Gideon perceived that He was the Angel of the Lord. So Gideon said, “Alas, O Lord God! For I have seen the Angel of the Lord face to face.”
23 Then the Lord said to him, “Peace be with you; do not fear, you shall not die.” 24 So Gideon built an altar there to the Lord, and called it The-Lord-Is-Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
judges 6:
Your peace comes from God’s presence!
14 Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?”
15 So he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”
16 And the Lord said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man.”
17 Then he said to Him, “If now I have found favor in Your sight, then show me a sign that it is You who talk with me. 18 Do not depart from here, I pray, until I come to You and bring out my offering and set it before You.”
And He said, “I will wait until you come back.”
Discussion Question:
What do you do when you can’t get peace?
For the next 5 weeks, we’ll be discussing Peace. But I want you to tuck in the back of your mind the fact that peace is much like a bank book.
Q: So if He is peace, and I’m supposed to be producing groves of it ( Gal 5:22), then why don’t we have more of it?!?!?!?
A: You can get out of balance and not even know how and suddenly you’ve lost your “peace.”
Truth is, yes, he’s the God of Peace…Jehovah Shalom, but we, as His representatives are to have peace!!!
Not only is peace a fruit, but it’s also metaphorically supposed to be put on our feet.
Soldiers have to take land. They have enemies and adversaries to come against.
peace is designed to help you move with confidence through hard times and times of war. God introduces Himself to Gideon as Peace at the beginning of the narravtive.
Discussion Question: What areas in your life are there right now can you make immediate change and repent?
A: You can get out of balance and not even know how and suddenly you’ve lost your “peace.”
