Nehemiah’s actions regarding repopulating Jerusalem

Walls have been rebuilt but the population is scarce. Nehemiah decides to draft families to occupy the land, especially the capitol city Jerusalem because it was the heart of the nation. Leaders have already stepped up, now the people are casting lots to determine 1 out of every 10 families to be appointed to go live in Jerusalem.
Scarce population
It’s a sacrifice! In order to grow in your faith it will require sacrifice.
Nehemiah decides to draft families to occupy the land, especially the capitol city Jerusalem because it was the heart of the nation.

Giving of yourself to God.

Leaders have already stepped up, now the people are casting lots to bring 1 out of every 10
The call to sacrifice begins with giving of yourself to GOD. There is no way that you can learn to sacrifice if you don’t first learn to give of yourself to God.

3 Now these are the heads of the provinces who lived in Jerusalem, but in the cities of Judah each lived on his own property in their cities—the Israelites, the priests, the Levites, the ctemple servants and the ddescendants of Solomon’s servants.

4 Some of the sons of Judah and some of the sons of Benjamin lived in Jerusalem. From the sons of Judah: Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son

They were already settled outside Jerusalem, now Nehemiah tells them they need to repopulate inside the walls. This creates a dilemma with stability.
Delima:
The reason why they built the walls in the first place is because of enemy attack, they might have had reserves in there heart, will the wall stand, and why put our families in danger by going back.
The question arises, how much do they really love God.
They already made the step of faith when they left Babylon and volunteered to go with Nehemiah to serve the Lord and help rebuild the wall. But what was the use if there were no people to live there?

16 When all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations surrounding us saw it, they lost their confidence; for they recognized that this work had been accomplished with the help of our God.

They just demonstrated to the neighboring people who God is. There testimony, witness and credibility was at stake if they didn’t return to jerusalem.
There testimony, witness and credibility was at stake if they didn’t return to jerusalem
God just helped them accomplish an impossible task of rebuilding the walls in 52 days () , now God needed them to rise up in faith and repopulate Jerusalem.
God is not just interested in building walls, He’s interested in building your life through faith.

5 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship

When we don’t live according to God’s standard it takes away our witness.. that’s why they needed to return to Jerusalem
In There were those that didn’t wait for lots to be cast they just volunteered

2 And the people blessed all the men who volunteered to live in Jerusalem

They were commended for stepping up to repopulate the land. by doing this they were serving God and there nation & inevitably looking out for the next generation.
Thats what was important, that’s why they rose up in there faith.
The obligation for us is so obvious, because the same principle applies to the pride in our lives.
When you say you are following God, you are called to sacrifice.
When God saves us we become apart of his family. As in the natural family structure, you have chores, you look after one another. The same rule applies in the church.
Never underestimate being physically present in the place God wants you. That’s the true meaning of = offering ourselves as living sacrifices
During that time in Israel’s history, if you wanted to hear those words, well done then you had to step up.
