And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine. And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.
Jesus did an amazing miracle
He changed a life that was long in bondage
If ever there was a perfect picture,
a perfect story
that summed up the earthly ministry of Christ it was this
Jesus gave freedom from evil spirits
He made this man clean and clothed
He changed his life
And in the end, Jesus told this man to go and spread the story
This man’s testimony was a powerful example!
But not everyone was happy!
Those pigs had feeders:
Somebody probably owned those pigs
Probably several people(co-op)
Pig in front of the bus on Khokhana road
Someone worked to feed those pigs
Someone cared for those pigs
Someone wanted to eat those pigs
Someone wanted to sell those pigs
But Jesus allowed the devil to destroy them all
Jesus did not kill the pigs
Jesus did not send them into the sea
Jesus did not choke/drown them
The evil spirits did
The people of this community did not care about that devil
Until it affected their pocketbook
Sure, they had tried to bind him
They tried to tame him
--This reminds me of people that try to apply bandages instead of addressing real heart problems
Deal with drug and pornography addictions without dealing with the heart
Those chains will be plucked assunder
When you try to deal with society’s problems through the lens of politics
Those fetters will be broken in pieces
When you try to feed, and clothe, and teach, and shelter, and fix
Without first dealing with the heart
The sin problem
It won’t last!
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
But now he was left living among the tombs
Crying and cutting himself
Shepherds were nearby, but showing no compassion
There were devils in their community, but they had given up on dealing with it
They got used to it
They became comfortable with it
This is Satan’s goal!
Television programs
Advertising
Education systems
Media
Satan wants to make you comfortable living with evil!
The devil isn’t hurting me...
I’m doing fine!
The devil is hard at work in our communities
And we have left it alone
Where are the tears over sin and broken lives?
Getting used to the temple in front of our house
Why? I don’t know
But I know that God is good
But these people from that area wanted Jesus to leave!
They heard that Jesus
They would rather have their pigs than Jesus!
We see the foolishness of these locals
They sent away Jesus?!
Do you know who He is?
Do you know what he has to offer?
Do they know what he has already done for you/them?
They saw His
Power - over devils
Provision - clothes
Priorities - people vs. pigs
What do you love more than Jesus?
What do you care about more than the right relationship with Jesus?
What would cause you to turn against Jesus?
To shake your fist in his face
Or maybe it’s quieter and more hidden than that:
What has caused bitterness in your heart?
What has caused you to stop trusting the Lord?
Many of us have chosen the pigs over our Saviour
There are many people that are not on the missionfield
Because they chose the pigs over Jesus!
Don’t inconvenience me!
Don’t cost me money
Don’t make life difficult
