Worst Case Scenario - VIDEO
We live in a world where it is all too easy to find the worst case scenario.

Falling back into Fear

Romans 8:15 ESV
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Slaves & Adoption:
Slave - completely devoted to their master
Adopted - in the Roman culture, the adopted person left everything from their pre-adopted life and walked into the newness of their adopted life.

Orphan Disposition

an adopted person may struggle with the feeling that they are unwanted, or always at risk of losing those close to them
As spiritual children, we need to make sure that we are not falling into this same trap.
Understanding that God is our Father, and has good plans for us, we should no longer worry about what the future may hold.

Limits on God - Trust His Ways

1. We may believe God can take care of others, we ever hear testimonies of such things.
Struggle to believe that God would take care of OUR problems
OR, we may believe that God will/can only take care of some of our problems
2. We don’t like the answer God give us
God shows us the way out of our F.A.W. but we essentially tell Him, “I don’t like that way”
Isaiah 55:9 ESV
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
God’s ways are so far above and beyond what we can imagine - we have to trust His ways

Caught in the Middle of Fear

Romans 12:12 ESV
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
These are Marks of a Christian found in the list we looked at in week 1.

Rejoice in Hope

Do you believe that there is hope for your situation or are you so stuck in your anxiety that you no longer can see hope?

Placing Fear

Fear is not something that needs to be removed from our life, it just needs to be put in the right place.
Romans 3:18 ESV
“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
This is talking about people falling into unrighteousness...
The Reason: they had no fear of God
Proverbs 1:7 ESV
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.
The fear you experience in life should ONLY be the fear you have towards God.

Fear Not Alone

NOT a fear of scared
IS a fear of reverence
It’s about understanding that we are unworthy to stand in the presence of God.
Genesis 3:9–10 ESV
But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.”
Gen
See Adam and Eve caught the revelation of who they are and immediately hid.

Fear Not Alone

1 Peter 5:6–11 ESV
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

1. Humble Yourselves Under God

Fearing God
NOT a fear of scared
IS a fear of reverence
It’s about understanding that we are unworthy to stand in the presence of God.
Genesis 3:9–10 ESV
But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.”
See Adam and Eve caught the revelation of who they are and immediately hid.

2. Cast All Your Anxieties

How many? ALL
What does casting look like?
Are you throwing it close enough to find it later?
Are you throwing it away so that you can’t find it again?
Throwing a rock off the Ringling bridge
You can cast your cares on God because HE CARES FOR YOU.
The things that you fear in life, DON’T care about you.
“Worry is a down payment on something that might not happen” -Joyce Meyer

3. The Devil is LIKE a roaring lion

Jesus is the one true lion - the lion of the tribe of judah
Satan is like a lion meaning that he is not, but he tries to be like one
Jesus is the lion of Judah meaning “praise”
Satan is a lion trying to devour
Jesus is the prince of peace.
Satan is not.

4. Resist and Know

1 Peter 5:9 ESV
Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.
Stand firm - be unshaken
And know that everyone else is going through the same suffering.

We Need Each Other

This is why we have a youth group - it is simply that…a group of youth.
We are all going through suffering in one way or another - it’s how we grow.
It is to our benefit that we go through trials and tough times - it produces perseverance > endurance > character > hope
Romans 5:
Romans 5:3–4 ESV
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,
Remember: Rejoice in Hope
Romans 12:12 ESV
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

5. After Suffering Comes Establishment

1 Peter 5:10–11 ESV
10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
It’s what we are about: building students that are unshaken (you are established) and students that are _______________?
You can be unafraid - but it’s only up to you. I can’t have you come up here and say a prayer and have you be relieved of your F.A.W.
