Praying
Praying
last week we looked at the time where Peter had arrested and was awaited death, James the brother of John and already be put to death. But the church had gathered together and prayed.
“Great things happen when a church is in prayer”
I talked about one the reason churches are not growing, and are not reaching people like we should be is because we are not praying like we should be.
This is a question for you to answer? Do we as a church need to be praying more? Now we are going to see we you are willing to pray more, if you are willing to be a praying church.
Being a church praying together. Starting tonight. This is going to be a part of our Sunday night service. Elab.
Also our Wednesday service.
Prayer room. Elab
No one ever prayed greater then Jesus. He spent much time in prayer.
What is prayer?
53 And every man went unto his own house. 1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
And everyone went to his own house.
And everyone went to his own house. But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
John 7:53-
Reason for Prayer.
Qualifications for prayer.
John 7:53
Things to Pray for.
35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
1.Jesus was a great sample to his disciples about prayer. They had seen him pray, they heard him pray, there were times when they had watched him go off alone and pray.
a. They wanted to to know more about prayer, more about his way of praying.
1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
1. Jesus again had been praying. After he had finished praying one of His disciples asks a question, “will you teach us to pray, like John(JTB) taught his disciples to pray?
a. Jesus is going to teach them what has become known as “The Lords” prayer” but what it really is, is a modal prayer. He never indented for this to be a prayer to be repeated over and over.
He had already taught them this when He taught the sermon on the Mount in But with some changes.
b. What he was doing that day was showing them how to pray:
What I want to do is look at the element to this prayer:
2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
Luke 11:
Our Father (A personal relationship with God)
Pray is very personal. It is one on one with God. A father is a relationship between a child and a father.
a. We have the privilege and the honor of praying with God the father. The one who spoke the world into existence. That is part of our praying with him.
Which art in Heaven (Faith)
When we pray, we have to pray with faith.
Hebrews
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16
we have have faith in our prayer life. We may not understand everything. But we have to have faith. Faith in who God is. Faith in what Go can do. Faith in what God can do.
“Hallowed be thy name”
Worship
Hallowed: To make holy.
Since God is Holy is worthy of worship.
Isaiah
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: The whole earth is full of his glory.
Psalm
4 Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, And give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
Worship
I Chronicles
4 And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord, and to record, and to thank and praise the Lord God of Israel:
4 Let them now that fear the Lord say, That his mercy endureth for ever.
5 Exalt ye the Lord our God, And worship at his footstool; For he is holy.
Psalm
a. Remember, when we pray, it can’t be a want list of things. We are praying to a might God worthy of our worship.
Worship:
Part of our worshipping God is our acknowledgment of who He is.
Thy Kingdom Come
Thy Kingdom Come
Expectation
Is like faith. It is praying expecting God to answer your prayers.
a. We are praying for VBS. at least 25 kids. We can’t pray. “Lord, we want at least 25 kids, but if you’ll sent us 15 that will be ok” NO, NO. NO: “Lord, sent us at least 25 kids, because that is what we are praying for”
5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; For my expectation is from him.
5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.
b. Why did they build a so big? Because of their expectation. Let’s don’t let them down?
c. When we pray, not for our wants, but for our needs (for PGBC) pray with the expectation that God will hear, and will meet our needs.
Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth
Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth
Submission
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James
1. Wednesday night we studying James, we this verse. This a verse you hear the last part “resist the devil and he will flee from you” but the first part is too often forgotten.
Submit: Is a military term which means to place under orders. It is a choice that one makes to come under the authority of God. Means to arrange under; to take position under; to subordinate yourself.
a. A big part of our prayer life is the willing to submit to God.

Amp adds (submissive wonder)

c. That means we also have to forgive others.
for we also forgive everyone that is indebted to us
for we also forgive everyone that is indebted to us
Compassion
Those who are indebted is speaking of a debt owed. The debt we owe is the debt of sin, Jesus paid that debt.
