Prayer Intercession

Whenever i mention this to people i see thier eyes roll over in their head
they either dont know what this is about or they dont think this is something that they want to get into.

Intercession or intercessory prayer is the act of praying to a deity on behalf of others

1 Timothy 2:1–2 AV
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
Daniel 10:1–10 AV
In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision. In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled. And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel; Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude. And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves. Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength. Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground. And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands.
Daniel 10:11–21 AV
And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia. Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days. And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face toward the ground, and I became dumb. And, behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength. For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me. Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me, And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me. Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come. But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.
This week i want us to look at intercessory prayer.
In our reading we see that Daniel whos name had been changed to Beltashazar
Daniel was his hebrew name which means judge of God
Belteshazzar which was his Babylonian name means
lord of the straitened’s treasure”
remember the 3 hebrew boys
Daniel 1:7 AV
Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.
Daniel was an understander of dreams not on his own bat but he sort out the answer from God
Daniel 2:16–20 AV
Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation. Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
Daniel spent time with God to find out what he wanted to share
In our reading we see that daniel was praying for understanding for what was going to happen in the future.
How many of us have prayed and asked God about things that lie in the future.
What Job should i do?
what man should i marry?
what does God want me to do for the kingdom?
and the list goes on.
maybe you have said your prayers at night and just tacked on the end of your prayers
o by the way God Should i marry ?
There are many things that you might not know the answers to but i can assure you that God does.
But how do we get them out of the mind of God and into our life.
Simply through Prayer
Im not talking about chantting a prayer like
O God bless mon dad my brother and sister and me oh and by the way who shall i marry. then get up and go about your daily duties as if nothing had happened.
In our reading we se that Daniel was by the river Hiddekel which was possible the river =Tigros.
He really ment business with God
how do i know
Daniel 10:2–4 AV
In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled. And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel;
here Daniel waited upon God for a long time
he ate no pleasant bread or bread of disires
he ate no meat or drank any wine
niether did he anoint himself with oil
why
Numbers 9:5 AV
And they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month at even in the wilderness of Sinai: according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel.
the first month of the year is the time when the passover is celabrated
Daniel along with others had come to this place to prepare for and celebrate the passover
but they wanted to be right before God and ready to hear what God might have to say to them even though they were still in captivity
Man might bind the body But God can free the mind.
Daniel was preparing for the passover in his own body and mind
Daniel 10:12 AV
Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.
Daniel and his friends wanted to get close to God and so they prepared thir dody and minds to recieve from God.
We see from the narrative that they were there some 24 days waiting upon God.
When we pray for that need of someone else do we pray or seek Gods Face for that amount of time
Or do we prayer just for those few moments a day and then forget.
Intercessory prayer is praying until you get the answer.
In Daniels case we find that God heard him on the first day and sent the answer
But because of the fight in the heavenlies Gods answer was unable to get through.
Have you prayed about a thing and you feel that no answer was coming and so you had given up.
Just like daniel the answer could have been sent but you gave up to soon to recieve the ansawer
Daniel because of his faithfulness to keep on praying and waiting upon God was Blessed with seeing a vision being touched
No one else received this blessing why
Had they stopped waiting and expecting Maybe
maybe they had got fed up of asking God for the same thing
Maybe they had had thier mind turned to something else
May be they had become disillusioned by not hearing from God
All they have been left with was a earth quake
The once firm ground that they had rested their faith on for so long had moved from beneath thier feet because of doubt and fustration.
To those this morning let me assure you that God answers prayer cling onto those things that you know to be true
Get down upon your knees again and bang on heavens door and dont stop until God brings the answer
God dose answer prayer you just have to trust him.
The same faith that makes you aware of your salvation will make you aware of Gods Answer to your prayers.
To those who have stayed upon your knees who God has revealled himself to whos life has been touched whom God has revealed his plans to what are you doing with them
Have you sat on them
do you hold them in your heart and feel happy because God has spoken to you
do you know what God has said you know what he wants you to do youve said yes i will do them but in my time and not Gods
Or are you doing what God has asked
Has God revealed himself to you has he touched your life ,has he revealed his plans ,
Daniel Could have stayed by the river in the place where God had spoken to him but he didnt he went on to do that which God had ordained for his life.
This morning my i encourage you to wait upon God
wait wait and keep on waiting till God reveales himself to you.
Then and only then move from that place to the place where God can use you to bless others.
Daniels and our life ought to and should be a life of constant waiting upon him until he speaks and then doing what he has spoken into ur lives.
