SERIES INTRODUCTION

Habakkuk 2:4 AMP
4 Look at the proud; his soul is not straight or right within him, but the [rigidly] just and the [uncompromisingly] righteous man shall live by his faith and in his faithfulness.
Here’s some important 411 on living in the kingdom…
1 Peter 4:11 NLT
11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.
The foundation of the Gospel is the revelation and power of God. God’s plan for reconciliation and salvation, while incorporating humanity, was never meant to be limited to to human ability alone.

FAITH IS A KINGDOM KEY

Matthew 16:19 NLT
19 And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”

3090 κλείς (kleis), κλειδός (kleidos), ἡ (hē): n.fem.; ≡ Str 2807; TDNT 3.744—1. LN 6.220 key, used to unlock a door or gate, hence the means to entrance, or power to keep in (Mt 16:19; Rev 1:18; 3:7; 9:1; 20:1+); 2. LN 57.63 means of acquiring something (Lk 11:52+)

The means to entrance...
We see this word used in only one other place in scriptures, and again, it is Jesus who says it:
Revelation 1:18 NLT
18 I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.

WHAT IS FAITH

Faith begins with belief, but goes well beyond mental assent or acceptance.
We use it in the word “bona fide”, meaning “genuine”; or literally in Latin, “good faith”

FAITH IN CONTEXT - ANCIENT ROME

For the Romans, FIDES was an essential element in the character of a man of public affairs, and a necessary constituent element of all social and political transactions (perhaps = 'good faith'). FIDES meant 'reliablilty', a sense of trust between two parties if a relationship between them was to exist. FIDES was always reciprocal and mutual, and implied both privileges and responsibilities on both sides. In both public and private life the violation of FIDES was considered a serious matter, with both legal and religious consequences.
Faith apart from relationship is powerless, meaningless, nothingness.
Hebrews 11:1 NLT
1 Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.
Hebrews 11:1 AMP
1 NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].
1 Now faith is the realization of what is hoped for, the proof of things not seen.

5712 ὑπόστασις (hypostasis), εως (eōs), ἡ (hē): n.fem.; ≡ Str 5287; TDNT 8.572—1. LN 58.1 substance, nature, essence

From the words Hupo, meaning: Under, the Histayme, meaning: to stand upon, to establish and hold up.
In other words, faith is to be the foundation upon which all of your life is built.

1650. ἔλεγχος ĕlĕgchŏs, el´-eng-khos; from 1651; proof, conviction:—evidence, reproof.

2008. ἐπιτιμάω ĕpitimaō, ep-ee-tee-mah´-o; from 1909 and 5091; to tax upon, i.e. censure or admonish; by impl. forbid:—(straitly) charge, rebuke.

Matthew 8:23–27 NLT
23 Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. 24 Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” 26 Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm. 27 The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!”

“Faith is a deep assurance - a firm foundation, that underlies everything we believe, think, say, and do. The evidence of that faith is the ability to rebuke anything contrary to the will of God, and thereby impose and manifest the Kingdom of God in place of the counterfeit currently occupying reality.”

GENUINE FAITH: NATURE NOT QUANTITY

Luke 17:6 NLT
6 The Lord answered, “If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘May you be uprooted and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you!
This understanding of faith gives Ephesians 2:8 deeper meaning and significance:
Ephesians 2:8 TPT
8 For it was only through this wonderful grace that we believed in him. Nothing we did could ever earn this salvation, for it was the gracious gift from God that brought us to Christ!
To those who will put themselves under the authority of Jesus, He “epitamaos” the power of sin from their lives, giving them keys by which they may enter into, and operate in, the Kingdom of God.
Galatians 2:20 NLT
20 My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
John 1:12 TPT
12 But those who embraced him and took hold of his name were given authority to become the children of God!
GOD GIVES FAITH JUST AS HE GIVES ABILITIES
Romans 12:3 LEB
3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone who is among you not to think more highly of yourself than what one ought to think, but to think sensibly, as God has apportioned a measure of faith to each one.
Romans 1:16–17 AMP
16 For I am not ashamed of the Gospel (good news) of Christ, for it is God’s power working unto salvation [for deliverance from eternal death] to everyone who believes with a personal trust and a confident surrender and firm reliance, to the Jew first and also to the Greek, 17 For in the Gospel a righteousness which God ascribes is revealed, both springing from faith and leading to faith [disclosed through the way of faith that arouses to more faith]. As it is written, The man who through faith is just and upright shall live and shall live by faith.
THE LIFE OF FAITH IS NOT OPTIONAL TO A DISCIPLE OF CHRIST
Hebrews 11:6 NLT
6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
Faith is not something you fall back on when all else fails!
Hebrews 10:38 AMP
38 But the just shall live by faith [My righteous servant shall live by his conviction respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, and holy fervor born of faith and conjoined with it]; and if he draws back and shrinks in fear, My soul has no delight or pleasure in him.

5713 ὑποστέλλομαι (hypostellomai), ὑποστέλλω (hypostellō): vb.; ≡ Str 5288; TDNT 7.597—1. LN 13.160 avoid, draw back, withdraw, hesitate (Ac 20:20, 27; Gal 2:12; Heb 10:38+), for another interp, see next; 2. LN 68.53 cease, for verses and another interp, see prior

to hesitate ⇔ shrink back v. — to pause or hold back in uncertainty or unwillingness; conceived of as drawing or shrinking back from something.
James 1:8 AMP
8 [For being as he is] a man of two minds (hesitating, dubious, irresolute), [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything [he thinks, feels, decides].
Hebrews 3:12 NLT
12 Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God.
Apistia - from which we get the word “Apostate”.

602 ἀπιστία (apistia), ας (as), ἡ (hē): n.fem.; ≡ Str 570; TDNT 6.174—1. LN 31.89 lacking in trustworthiness (Ro 3:3+); 2. LN 31.97 refusing to trust (Ro 11:20, 23; Heb 3:12, 19+; Mk 16:14, 15 v.r.); 3. LN 31.105 not believing, unbelief, lack of faith (Mt 13:58; Mk 6:6; 9:24; Ro 4:20; 1Ti 1:13+; Mt 17:20 v.r.)

This is the term used by the
Mark 9:23–25 NLT
23 “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” 24 The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” 25 When Jesus saw that the crowd of onlookers was growing, he rebuked the evil spirit. “Listen, you spirit that makes this boy unable to hear and speak,” he said. “I command you to come out of this child and never enter him again!”

Faith is demonstrated by your actions and NOT simply by your confession thereof.

James 2:17 AMP
17 So also faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead).
Faith is the foundation of true life, it is ongoing, increasing, and evidenced in our actions.

Can you point to specific times when you acted on a situation simply by faith? How long ago was that? Did it require more trust than the time before?

Romans 1:16 AMP
16 For I am not ashamed of the Gospel (good news) of Christ, for it is God’s power working unto salvation [for deliverance from eternal death] to everyone who believes with a personal trust and a confident surrender and firm reliance, to the Jew first and also to the Greek,
