1 Corinthians 11:23-28
Communion.
Its about the heart.
The heart of Jesus was poured out the night before crucifixion.
Forgiveness was freely offered for the things that were about to happen.
As far as the disciples knew, except for Judas, their hearts were pure.
That night they were convinced of their devotion to Jesus.
But the text we have in 1 Cor does not carry the same conditions.
Paul addresses issues with the church at Corinth related to the Lord’s Supper.
Their heart wasnt right when coming to the Lord’s Table.
Looking back in the chapter shows attitudes that have no place in the church.
We can celebrate remembering and receiving when our hearts are right.
If not, the sacrifice of Jesus fades from focus.
We proclaim the Lord’s death when our hearts are right.
v.26
Why this is important: It is the only death that gives us life.
There are those who died to preserve life.
Or to preserve a way of life.
Memorial Day.
But what Jesus did was unique.
So we proclaim.
But our proclamation is empty unless our hearts are right.
We can look to the Psalmist
Communion.

Fellowship.
