Last week we talked about Love and what real love is. Remember the four Greek words for love?
Agapa
Storge
philia
Eros
We talked about Agapa love. How real love isn’t necessarily a feeling but a choice. Today we are going to explore how sexuality fits into love.
God created us with sexual desire and what are we to do with it?
Let me explain it this way.
Everything in its place.
Everything in its place.
Candy is good but only in the right setting.
God designed us to live balanced lives and we can try and ignore those rules but it will only be to our ruin.
Our sexuality is a beautiful thing when in the right context. When we try and bring it outside of the context of marriage it only brings ruin.
English Standard Version Chapter 13
13 Let brotherly love continue. 2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. 3 Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body. 4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.
The author used philia this time. We are to love all those around us.
Vs 4 We are to honor marriage. Duh.
But the marriage bed is undefiled. This means that sex between a husband and a wife is an amazing a beautiful thing! It should be celebrated.
The songs of Solomon is pretty graphic describing the joy of two marred people.
When two people enter into marriage they are to agape each other but then they are also called to Eros each other.
In marriage you are loving your partner in many different ways and sex happens to be one of them.
The second half of vs 4 shows the unhealthy way to experience sex.
for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.
Sexually immoral someone having sexual relations outside of marriage.
Adulterous someone married experiencing sex outside of marriage.
So any kind of sex outside of marriage between a man and a women aint gonna fly. And if you ask how far is to far.
English Standard Version Chapter 5
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Remember Jesus is all about the heart . Everything from lust on is sin.
Before we get any farther can I encourage everyone.
All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We have all sinned and lusted. Can everyone who has sinned raise their hands?
We know that Jesus didn’t come into the world to condemn the world but to save so what do you think he is doing right now with these verses? Get you to run to him!
Man and Woman
Man and Woman
So we see the Eros love is good and healthy between and Man and a Woman. To really understand that we need to go back to when we were first created.
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
