10th Sunday Pentecost
“Our Father”
!
LUKE 11:1-13
1.
Once Jesus was‑praying in a place.
Happened Jesus finished, one of HIS friends asked, “Lord, teach us to pray the same‑as JOHN taught his friends.”
2.
Jesus said, “Happen you pray, say the words: Father in heaven, YOUR name is holy, YOUR kingdom come,
3.
YOUR wish happen on earth same‑as in heaven, give‑us every‑day our daily blessings,
4.
Forgive our sins, same‑as we forgive people sinning against us.
And don’t bring us to temptation.”
5.
Jesus said to HIS friends, “If you have a friend, and you go to your friend at midnight and ask, ‘Friend, may I borrow three loaves‑of‑bread.
6.
A visitor came to my house, and I have nothing to serve him.’
7.
Will your friend answer, ‘Don’t bother me.
The door is‑locked, and the family is all in bed.
I can’t get‑up and give you anything.’
8.
I tell you, indifferent he won’t get‑up and give you anything because you are his friend, still if you bother more he will get‑up and give you anything you need.
9.
Now I tell you, ask and it will be‑given to you.
Search and you will find.
Knock and the door will be‑opened for you.
10.
Anyone asking will receive and anyone searching will find and anyone knocking will have the door opened for him.
11.
If your son asks you for a fish, will any of you give a snake instead‑of a fish?
12.
Or if your son asks for an egg, will you give your son a spider?
13.
Now if you sinful people know enough to give your children good gifts, then think much more your Father in heaven will give the Holy Spirit to those asking HIM!”

*OUR FATHER*
(From Matthew 6:9-13)
"Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we also have forgiven those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever.
Amen.
(From Luke 11:2-4)
Father in heaven, YOUR name is holy, YOUR kingdom come, YOUR wish happen on earth same‑as in heaven, give‑us every‑day our daily blessings, Forgive our sins, same‑as we forgive people sinning against us.
And don’t bring us to temptation.”
Introduction
*Grace, mercy, and peace from God Our Father and from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!*
* *
* *Many times we sign the Lord's Prayer so fast that it's very hard to see the signs.
We just want to get the prayer finished.
Sometimes I wonder if we are really interested in the words anymore?
Maybe we are only signing out of habit, or because the Pastor wants us to do it.
We should be signing the Lord's Prayer out of love for God.
We are signing for His glory.
Most of us can sign the Lord's Prayer without thinking.
We can daydream our way through His prayer.
The signs are routine (same, same) for us.
The Lord's Prayer has become boring for many of us.
So, in the sermon time, we will take time to slowly go over the words.
Also, a brief explanation will be given for the meaning of the words.
Please pay attention to the little words & the big words.
We will have a mini-confirmation class on the Lord's Prayer.
*Listen!
Just like it was the first time these words were ever spoken!*
Hopefully, you still remember from your confirmation class.
The 12 disciples ask Jesus how they should pray.
Jesus told them, "When you pray, pray like this...";
*The Address *
*(We are talking to God)*
Our Father, who art in Heaven.-
/What does this mean?/
God tenderly invites us to believe that He is our true Father and that we are His true children, so that we may pray to Him as boldly and confidently as dear children ask their dear father.
*God is Our Father - We are his children - We are family!*
*The First Petition*
*(Our First Prayer- asking God's help)*
1) Hallowed be thy name.-
/What does this mean?/
God's name is certainly holy by itself, but in this petition we pray that we too may keep it holy.
/How is God's name kept holy?/ God's name is kept holy when His Word is taught in its truth and purity, and we as children of God lead holy lives according to it.
In this help us, dear Father in heaven!
But whoever teaches and lives contrary to God's Word, dishonors God's name among us.
From this keep us, deaf Father in heaven!
*The Second Petition*
*(2nd Prayer)*
2) Thy kingdom come.-
/What does this mean?/
God's kingdom certainly comes by itself even without our prayer, but in this petition we pray that it may come to us and many others.
/How does God's kingdom come?/
God's kingdom comes when our heavenly Father gives His Holy Spirit, so that by His grace we believe His holy Word and lead a godly life now on earth and forever in heaven.
/ /
*The Third Petition*
*(3rd Prayer)*
3) Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.-
/What does this mean?/
God's good and gracious will certainly is done without our prayer, but in this petition we pray that it may be done among us also.
/How is God's will done?/
God's will is done when He breaks and defeats every evil plan and purpose of the devil, the world, and our sinful flesh, which try to prevent us from keeping God's name holy and letting His kingdom come.
And God's will is done when He strengthens and keeps us firm in His Word and in the faith as long as we live.
This is His good and gracious will.
*The Fourth Petition*
*(4th Prayer)*
4) Give us this day our daily bread.-
/What does this mean?/
God surely gives daily bread without our asking even to all the wicked, but in this petition we pray that He would lead us to realize this and to receive our daily bread with thanks.
/What, then, is meant by daily bread?
/ Daily bread includes everything that we need for our bodily welfare such as: food and drink, clothing and shoes, house and home, fields and flocks, money and goods, a godly family, good workers, good government, honest leaders, good citizens, good weather, peace, health, a good name, loyal friends, and good neighbors.
*The Fifth Petition*
*(5th Prayer)*
5) And forgive us our trespasses, as we also have forgiven those who trespass against us.-
/What does this mean?/
We pray in this petition that our Father in heaven would not look upon our sins or because of them deny our prayers.
We are worthy of none of the things for which we ask, neither have we deserved them.
But we ask that He would give them all to us by grace, for we daily sin much and surely deserve nothing but punishment.
So we too will forgive from the heart and gladly do good to those who sin against us.
