Intro
The rapper by the name of Drake recently released a new video called "God's Plan".
In the video Drake takes his budget of a million dollars set aside for the video and instead decides give it to various people.
$25,000 donation to the school is given to a high school for band and uniforms, $50,000 is given to a college student to cover her tuition, another $50,000 is given to a women’s shelter, and in one instance he goes into a grocery store and announces that he will pay for everyone’s groceries in the store.
I can’t vouch for the lyrics of the song but the video displays no matter how outlandish some things seem to be if it’s in God’s plan, it’s in God’s plan.
Today we examine our savior Jesus’ struggle with the plan of God, in this struggle we should see within ourselves that at times the will of God means discomfort, pain, and death of ourselves.
· It is interesting that this location is at a place where olive trees are and was said to have had an oil press.
o This is the place where the will of the God man (son of man) would be pressed (tested).
The outcome of the pressed olive would be that which would be used to anoint a person.
The outcome of this predicament would point to Jesus being the anointed.
o In the garden man fell, yet in this garden man would obey God and live…
· It’s good to have people with you who will guide you where you need to be and not take you off task.
It is also good to have a group with you who understands that you need time with God as well.
V37
· Again Peter, James, & John are taken with Jesus.
These same three witnessed Jesus transfigured before him.
They saw him at a high point.
And now they will witness a low point.
· He is able to open up to his closest disciples.
· NKJV & Greek
o “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful…”
“My soul is exceedingly sorrowful…” (Original language “Soul” is present)
Soul- The essence in life in terms of thinking, willing.
o Soul- The essence in life in terms of thinking willing.
§ The soul is the intermediate in man between body and spirit.
The spirit expresses the relation to God; the body, the relation to earth; the soul, the relation to the world at large, especially the world of spirits.

o Jesus’ thoughts are at war.
We will find out it is between the flesh and the spirit.
What connects him to earth or what connects him to God.
Which will win?
· Would he cater to the flesh?
Avoiding Pain… Or would he cater to the spirit?
Submitting to the will of God for the salvation of all?
o Do we as a body seek to be comfortable in earth’s endeavors or that of heaven?
mt 26
· He positions himself in a manner that shows that he is going to God for supplication.
o Supplicate- To ask humbly and earnestly of.
“…My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me…”
o If you are capable of accomplishing this task without me having to drink this cup.
o Are we willing to accept the cup presented to us by God?
· In times of trial sometimes it is not enough to seek salvation, but the will of God! Sometimes the will of God means you making a sacrifice.
· Sometimes the people in your life that are the closest will not be with you on your journey.
· But we must understand that we are us and they are them.
Show LOVE
V41
· This battle between what is “yours” and what is God’s rages on.
Which do you feed?
Trial/Temptation- To attempt to cause someone to sin.
mt 26
· He goes back for a second time.
Still asking God if it be possible allow salvation to come without the things necessary like suffering on the cross and separation from the father and being made sin’s sacrifice
V44
· Jesus goes back a third time.
· In none of the Gospels did God respond.
In Luke angels were sent to strengthen him spiritually but not in the flesh.
o
o I don’t know when or what prayer they came but it happened.
·
o Abba
o Trust of the father
· Here we see acceptance
· Here we see Jesus falling back in line with the will of God
· Garden time is over.
When you’ve made room for God and he is in you, then it’s time to act.
It’s not enough to know right, you have to act on it!
· We KNEEL before God in prayer so that we may STAND before the world.
· “In prayer we kneel before God that we may stand erect before the world.”
