Matthew 9:35–38 HCSB
Then Jesus went to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness. When He saw the crowds, He felt compassion for them, because they were weary and worn out, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
This morning I would like to share my heart with you. I feel so strongly about this that I have trouble finding adequate words to convey my deepest of desires for the church.
God wants you!
God wants you to Repent of your sins and have faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.
God wants you to find joy in Him, in serving Him, worshiping Him, and telling others about Him.
God wants you to raise your family to love Him, tell your neighbors to love Him, tell your coworkers to love Him, tell your friends to love Him!
God wants to see more people come to faith in Jesus Christ around Palestine, Anderson County, Texas, the USA, and around the world.
God wants you to find purpose in Him, to find significance in Him, to find your self worth in Him.
God wants more for you than you realize is out there.
Nothing brings more joy to Gods heart than seeing members of NHBC serving Him and sharing the gospel with others. God doesn’t care about how many seats are filled on Sunday or how many people are on the membership rolls, i care about how many hearts are transformed by the Holy Spirit.
I’m obsessed with reaching those who aren’t here.
I want my children to have a church to love and serve in.
I want your children and grandchildren to love God with all that is in them. God wants that for your kids and grandkids.
Jesus said
Luke 19:10 HCSB
For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.”
Matthew 9:13 HCSB
Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice. For I didn’t come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Matthew 18:12 HCSB
What do you think? If a man has 100 sheep, and one of them goes astray, won’t he leave the 99 on the hillside and go and search for the stray?

God Wants You to Put Others Before Yourself

Christ First (Studying His Word)
Others Second (Disciple Others)
Yourself Last (Personal Preferences)
Ministry
Church we need to begin putting Christ first in our life! This means putting others before ourselves. It means setting aside our desires and our hopes and our preferences for the needs of those who are lost. I want with everything inside of me to see lost people come to faith in Jesus Christ. I want with everything inside of me to see lost people come to NHBC and begin following Jesus Christ, being discipled, taught how to love Him and learning what it means to follow Christ.
I want to see you become all that Christ created you to become. To become all that he sees in you. He gave up his life for you and you are talented, gifted, blessed, and incredible people, God wants you to use all that you are to lead other people to Him. Every sermon, every newsletter article. Everyone Bible study is meant to help you see the need for a closeness to God that is demonstrated through your reaching out to the lost.
I’m confused and saddened that so many of you continue to ignore messages and Bible studies and aren’t compelled by the Holy Spirit to share the gospel or serve someone in need. I don’t understand that. God has a better life for you to live. He has so much more for you to do. And doing it brings value and happiness to your life in ways that nothing else on this earth can. I don’t understand.
Do you not love Jesus?
Are you not grateful for what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross?
I’m encouraged by those who are setting aside personal preferences to reach the lost, but their are still so many of you who aren’t bearing any fruit and they suffer, the kingdom suffers, this lifestyle does NOT please the Lord.
If we are going to see our kids and grandkids and great-grandkids, our friends and family, neighbors and strangers come to faith in Jesus Christ we have to take responsibility and lay aside our personal preference to reach them. That means sacrifice and theres no way around it. We cannot continue to give the least amount we can to the Lord and expect to see our friends and family in heaven. They need you to live for Christ, setting the example, and sharing the Gospel with them. God has given you that responsibility.
Matthew 9:35–38 HCSB

Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
John 13:34 HCSB
“I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another.

God Wants You to Leave Church and Home

Please notice with me that Jesus didn’t just stay in his synagogue in Galilee. He didn’t wait for lost people and hurting people to come to him. He went out to the towns and villages. He was teaching and preaching and healing diseases. He loved those who were lost and had compassion on them. Do you love the lost?
Go to the people
Don’t wait for people to come to you
Have compassion on the Lost
Please notice with me that Jesus didn’t just stay in the synagogue. He didn’t wait for lost people and hurting people to come to him. He went out to the towns and villages. He was teaching and preaching and healing diseases. He loved those who were lost and had compassion on them. Do you love the lost?
When you see someone who is trapped in sin, trapped in the sin of adultery, pornography, drug use, alcoholism, gossip, anger, self-centeredness and jealousy are you saddened at the state of their lives? They will never be satisfied. Anger creates anger, jealousy creates jealousy, gossip creates gossip, and all of these destroy lives. Christ has taken your broken life and put it back together so you can go and help others by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with them, so He can begin putting their broken lives back together. Do you have compassion as Jesus had compassion?
Do you love the lost?
Do you have compassion for the hurting?
They need a shepherd. First and foremost that is Jesus Christ. The good shepherd, the shepherd of our souls. Second, he has placed pastors in every church as under-shepherds to feed, nurture, and lead the sheep of God’s pasture. To teach, preach, and pray for God’s power to transform their lives. Are you a part of the flock, following the shepherd, Jesus Christ? Or have you gone astray, turning to your own way, doing what is right in your own eyes. That not only leads you away from Christ, but it also leads others away from Christ. Do you have compassion as Jesus had compassion?
John 20:21–23 HCSB
Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” After saying this, He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”
John 20:21 HCSB
Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
When it comes to church planting, Satan doesn’t care if you just huddle up some believers in a new location, but if you start penetrating the lostness of a city by making disciples & multiplying the church, he’s going to pay attention. - Vance Pitman
Jesus was sent to reach the lost, the sick, the hurting, those who were in need of a Savior. He has also sent you; “As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” You’ve been sent. Have you gone anywhere?

Every member of NHBC is a minister of the Gospel. Why do you come to NHBC? Do you come to see friends, do you come to be entertained by the music. Do you come to have your ears tickled. Do you listen messages and think of someone else who needed to hear it?

EVERY MEMBER OF THIS CHURCH IS A MINISTER!

The Bible says that you come to church to be equipped and trained to serve the Lord. If you came to church today to be served and catered to, you’ve come for the wrong reason and you’re going to leave disappointed.
Why do you come to NHBC? To be equipped to do the work that God has set in front of you.
If you came to church today to be served and catered to, you’ve come for the wrong reason and you’re going to leave disappointed.
I believe this is the main reason people are unhappy with their church. Its because they have unbiblical expectations of the church, that aren’t being met, and therefore they leave saying “I’m just not being fed… That worship wasn’t my style… The preaching was just to slow, or to fast, or to soft, or to loud, or too biblical!
The purpose of the church and its pastors is to train up and equip the members. To mobilize them to reach the lost.
Ephesians 4:11–13 HCSB
And He personally gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, for the training of the saints in the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son, growing into a mature man with a stature measured by Christ’s fullness.

God Wants You to Be Trained to Serve

Joy comes from fulfilling God’s mission
Our community needs you
Wherever you are, you are a minister

I read a story the other day of a pastor who was asked by one of his members; what is our church doing for the poor? He responded, “I don’t know, what are you doing for the poor? You’re the church!”

Our city is missing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, because the members of the church are waiting for the church to go out and lead people to Christ. YOU ARE THE CHURCH! We’ve been waiting for someone else to go out and do it, but we are the ones who’ve been commanded to go! YOU have been sent!

If you work at a hospital, you’re a minister at the hospital, city, prison, school, restaurant, warehouse, factory.
What about our retired folks? Are you retired from work? When you retire from work, do you retire from serving the Lord? Let me ask you this, and please seriously listen and take to this to heart! Do you love the Lord? Has he given you the great commission to GO…? Then why aren’t you going? It is your responsibility to GO and find a place to minister.

David Platt Sermon Archive A Missional Awakening (Acts 1–2)

“Our external delights, our earthly pleasures, our ambition, and our reputation, our human relationships, for all these things, our desires are eager, our appetites strong, our love warm and affectionate. When it comes to these things, our hearts are tender and sensitive, deeply impressed, easily moved, much concerned and greatly engaged. We are depressed at our losses and we are excited and joyful about any worldly success or prosperity. But when it comes to spiritual matters, how dull we feel.”

restaurant
He said, “How heavy and hard our hearts; we can sit in here at the infinite height and length and breadth and love of God and Christ Jesus, of His giving His infinitely dear Son, and yet sit there, cold and unmoved. If we are going to be excited about anything, shouldn’t it be our spiritual lives? Is there anything more inspiring, more exciting, more lovable and desirable in Heaven or on Earth than the gospel of Jesus Christ? We should be utterly humbled that we are not more emotionally affected than we are in the church.”

God Wants You To Reach the Next Generation

The church canNOT stay the way it is
This begins in your hearts
What are we doing to reach the next generation?
God wants us to reach the next generation. God wants us to reach Young families and students. we must begin thinking not from the perspective of “how can I keep the church the way I want it”, but “what can we do to reach those who aren’t here yet”. It begins in your hearts and your homes, then spreads throughout the church. There was a time when the church was organized to reach the builder generation, then it changed to reach the silent generation, then it changed yet again to reach the baby boomers, and then it changed to reach generation X. Those that have refused to change to reach the next generation have died! Because to refuse to change to reach the next generation is to take Gods word, and put it on a shelf. It is to say; “God, my preferences, my style of church, my seat, my music, my wants and my desires are more important than Your commands”, “I love myself more than I love you and more than I love others!”
Refusing to reach the next generation is idolatry, you are placing yourself before God’s Word!
Now we have a new generation, millennials, the generation with fewer christians than any generation in the last thousand years. What are we doing to reach them? Generation Z is in school today, do you love millennials and gen Z? These are your kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. They are different. They don’t walk, talk, or dress like you. But do you still love them as Christ loves them? Do you love your kids and grandkids? Do you love them enough to want to see their friends saved, their classmates saved, their coworkers saved? Or will you say you are more important than them? The disciples tried to prevent children from coming to Jesus and he rebuked them. What you do and what we do as a church either prevents them from coming or encourages them to come to Jesus? What are we doing to reach future generations?
God wants us to reach future generations! This is why we have Soccer Camps and VBS. This is why we have Wednesday night meals and youth and kids activities. This is why we are praying and brainstorming ways to reach the next generation. This is why we are making plans to remodel the children and youth wings. We must begin thinking intentionally about reaching the next generation. There is no time to wait. Everyday the devil is tightening His grip on our children and grandchildren while we sit on the sidelines oblivious to their cries for help.
This is why we do missions work, to see the lost saved, this is why we must stop thinking of ourselves and begin investing in the future. Laying aside our wants and desires for their need! Laying aside our preferences for God’s Glory! Because God Wants You. God has a plan for you. He wants your to be a part of reaching future generations. He has a plan for NHBC, and I pray for this plan every day. I ask God to reveal this plan to me everyday. I believe part of God’s plan for NHBC is reaching younger families. The parents need Jesus, the kids need Jesus, our community and nation needs Jesus!
God sent David to take down Goliath. David believed God would bring him victory over Goliath, but David still had to put the stone in the sling and throw it! God sent Moses to lead Israel out of Egypt, but Moses still had to stand before Pharaoh and the people. God wants us to reach the next generation, but we have to do our part!
God Wants you Put Others Before Yourself, Leave Church and Home to share the gospel, Be Trained to Serve, and To Reach the Next Generation. Will you commit, along with me, to doing whatever we can to reach the next generation? I want us to use this invitation as a time to pray for the next generation. I’m asking you, if you love your kids and grandkids to come to the alter and pray for our kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Pray for God to show us what we need to do to reach the next generation!
