“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies” (). After creation God saw that Adam was lonely and created a companion for him (). Note: it is not good for man to be alone (). When a man takes a wife they become “one flesh” (). Let’s look at some of the women of the Bible.
I. EVIL WOMEN

A. Lot’s wife (). She loved sinful Sodom more than the commands of God. Because of this she was lost, tells us: “But Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt.”

26But Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt.

B. Jezebel (). She encouraged her husband Ahab to have Naboth killed so that he could take his vineyard. She also persecuted Elijah. She died a terrible death.

B. Delilah, A name that we are familiar with. Delilah was paid to trick Samson, the worlds strongest man. , tells us that: 4 Some time later Samson fell in love with a woman named Delilah, who lived in the valley of Sorek. (NLT)20 Then she cried out, “Samson! The Philistines have come to capture you!” When he woke up, he thought, “I will do as before and shake myself free.” But he didn’t realize the Lord had left him.

4 Some time later Samson fell in love with a woman named Delilah, who lived in the valley of Sorek.

(NLT)20 Then she cried out, “Samson! The Philistines have come to capture you!” When he woke up, he thought, “I will do as before and shake myself free.” But he didn’t realize the Lord had left him.

The Lord left Samson when Delilah tricked him into telling him where he gets his strength, his hair. They cut it while he was asleep.

20 Then she cried out, “Samson! The Philistines have come to capture you!” When he woke up, he thought, “I will do as before and shake myself free.” But he didn’t realize the Lord had left him.

WE COULD GO ON AND ON WITH MANY “EVIL” WOMEN IN SCRIPTURE. LET’S MOVE ON TO SOME THAT FOUND FAVOR IN THE EYES OF THE LORD.

II. SACRED WOMEN

A. Sarah was over ninety years old. Yet God gave her a son, Isaac. She is mentioned in the “Bible Hall of Fame.” She is called “the mother of nations.”

B. Hannah (). After many years of waiting God gave her a son. His name was Samuel.

C. Samson’s mother (). God gave her a son to deliver Israel.

D. Elisabeth, Her son became a great preacher. He was known as John the Baptist, who introduced Jesus as the Lamb of God.

But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer. Your wife, Elizabeth, will give you a son, and you are to name him You will have great joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth

13But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer. Your wife, Elizabeth, will give you a son, and you are to name him John.

Are we seeing a common point here with God’s Blessings? God was blessing “His children” with “having children.” Think about it, aren’t our children a blessing? Well, at least until they are older usually. LOL

14You will have great joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth,

III. SERVING WOMEN

A. Bathsheba (). Though she was guilty of adultery, her son, Solomon, became the wisest man that ever lived.

B. Mary (). An angel appeared to Mary and told her that she would be the mother of Jesus. This was a fulfillment of which tells us:

14 All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).

C. Mary of Bethany. She sat at the feet of Jesus:

(1) for instruction, , Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught.

, Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught.

39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. (3) for service

(2) For Comfort: When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

(2) For Comfort: When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

(3) For Service: Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance.

32When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
3 Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance.

E. Eunice (). She left a lasting impression on Timothy.

Women have much to do in controlling the course of the world. Many women “work behind the scenes” in making the home and community a success. Women are also becoming involved in many other areas of the employment scene. God created woman to be a help to man. As you read the Bible you will see that God’s plan for woman is to help and encourage man.
