God’s Promises what do they mean for me?
God’s Promises what do they mean for me?
Last week we looked at sin entering the world along with death that followed
God spoke something to Adam and Eve that is important
I will put hostility between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and her offspring.
He will strike your head,
and you will strike his heel.
Gensis 3:15
God makes a promise of one who is going to come and He would crush satan and his work
But He too would suffer a blow in the fight
He would pay a price to save and redeem
Yet he himself bore our sicknesses,
and he carried our pains;
but we in turn regarded him stricken,
struck down by God, and afflicted.
But he was pierced because of our rebellion,
crushed because of our iniquities;
punishment for our peace was on him,
and we are healed by his wounds.
We all went astray like sheep;
we all have turned to our own way;
and the Lord has punished him
for the iniquity of us all.
Jesus took our place
Because God said one was going to come who would crush the Head of the serpent
God’s promises are true
- God makes a Covenant with Abraham
- God makes a Covenant with Abraham
they divide the animals in have
they are both supposed to pass through saying “Who ever breaks this covenant will be like these animals.”
Serious stuff!
But God passes through along!
God knew that Abraham was going to make mistakes
that he would fail and fall
and God’s knows that of us too
That is the beauty of Grace-
It makes Life Not Fair!
What I deserve I don’t get
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Christ took our spot
He paid our price
The law came along to multiply the trespass. But where sin multiplied, grace multiplied even more
The law was there to show we need a savior
Jesus comes to fulfill God’s promise way back when sin entered the world
John 6:32-
Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, Moses didn’t give you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
Then they said, “Sir, give us this bread always.”
“I am the bread of life,” Jesus told them. “No one who comes to me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty again.
To believe- Total dependence on the work of another
for us it is complete reliance upon Jesus
