We have two sins left to deal with in this series, both of which underlie the other sins we’ve considered. Both envy and pride get to the heart of sin and to the sinful heart of human beings. Both of them trigger other sins and stem from idolatry. This week we’re looking at envy. Envy that expresses itself in constant comparison and discontent. Envy that focusses on temporary, worldly things rather than eternal, godly things. Envy that blinds us from the goodness of God. This envy is treatable, but only when we compare ourselves to God and get the perspective of the gospel and eternity. Only by trusting God can we find true contentment in this life.
