Proverbs 31:30–31 ESV
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.
Proverbs 31:30 ESV
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Araminta Ross - Harriet Tubman, she was born
Jehoshabeath is a woman worth of praise.
She lived during a time of great turmoil and trouble in Judah.
She was the daughter of Jehoram and Athaliah.

Jehoram was a wicked king in Judah, who killed all his brothers when he came to the throne (). He only reigned 8 years.
Her brother was King Amaziah, who only reigned 1 year.
She was directly involved in God’s Providential preservation of the royal line.

She was Persuaded of God’s Promise

God had promised David a continual throne - Athaliah put that promise in jeopardy.
Jehoshabeath’s name means either “Yahweh gives abundantly” or “Yaweh is an Oath”. In other words, her name reflects her belief in God’s promise and provision, both of which were vital during the time in which she lived.
Her actions show her commitment to God.

She Protected Life

She acted at the risk of her own life to preserve the life of her nephew, Joash.
Our culture values personal freedom over responsibility. It values the powerful over the weak, yet this woman sought to protect and defend the defenseless.
Araminta Ross - Harriet Tubman

She Provided for Spiritual Training

God has a high calling for women, and mothers, in the church.
Titus 2:3–5 ESV
Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.
Jehoshabeath was directly involved in Joash’s training during the critical years of his development. She made sure he was hidden in the presence of God.
James Keller - “Every mother has the breath-taking privilege of sharing with God in the creation of new life.” Even further, they have the awesome responsibility of shaping and molding that child’s knowledge of God.
Application:
Mothers, are you bringing your children before the throne of God in prayer?
Women, have you received the call to protect life?
Have you recognized your role in God’s provident plan? Have you believed his promise?
