Philippians 2:5–11 ESV
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Monday 5-8
Philippians 2:5 CSB
5 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,
Heading 1
This is one of the greatest passages that Paul wrote about Jesus Paul is pleading with the Philippians to live in Harmony to lay aside their discords and to shed their personal ambitions and pride and their desire for prominence and prestige and to have hearts that are humble and to have a selfless desire to serve which was the essence of Christ His final and unanswerable appeal is to point to their example of Jesus. The Philippians are shown the greatest possible incentive to unity and humility Christ Himself This passage is not just a description of Christ, but it is an example for us to follow. We are to be servants, obedient, and to put others first. If we approach church membership under the perspective of entitlement we have it upside down. you always first ask what you can do for the Church. The most literal meaning is think of yourselves as Christ did
We need to have the same attitude as Christ. He:
Did not consider equality with God something to be used to His advantage
he emptied himself assuming the form of a slave
He Humbled Himself
Did not consider equality with God something to be used to His advantage
He became obedient unto death
It is vital that Christians are united this all important for their fellowship and witness
he emptied himself assuming the form of a slave
It is a secret of the Roman’s army’s success that they fight as a single unit. They link their shields to make a wall in defense, or quickly reform into lines or wedges for attack. Will Christians be any less committed to one another than pagan soldiers?
He Humbled Himself
Each of us must do the same and put aside our preferences for the cause of the Church
He became obedient unto death

The Bible Guide The Attitude of Jesus (1:27–2:18)

Philippians 2:6 CSB
6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited.
The idea of this passage is that although Christ was in the form of God He did not use this to his advantage. This is yet another proof of the trinity. It refers to the fact that ensues has always and will always exist in a deity.
The form of God refers to Christ’s decision to humble himself. and die on the cross yet he was still fully God and fully man. this is known as the Hypostatic Union Instead of holding onto His rights and privileges He obeyed the Father. This is described by Paul both positively and negatively.
THe idea of the fact that it was not somthing to be exploided has two meanings
The Letters to Philippians, Colossians, and Thessalonians True Godhead and True Humanity (Philippians 2:5–11)

Jesus did not need to snatch at equality with God, because he had it as a right.

Jesus did not need to snatch at equality with God, because he had it as a right.
Positively: The implication here is that Jesus is willing to set aside His own rights in Obedience to the father’s Higher purposes, this being the case why can we not do the same? Can we not be like-minded and consider others more important than ourselves.
Jesus did not need to snatch at equality with God, because he had it as a right.
2. It can mean that he did not clutch at equality with God, as if to hug it jealously to himself, but laid it down willingly for the sake of men and women. However we take this, it once again stresses the essential godhead of Jesus.
Form of God: Christ’s desision to humble himself and die on the cross took place while He was still fully God, yet fully man this is known as the Hypostatic union Instead of holding onto His rights and privilages He obayed the Father. THis is described by Paul both positivly and negitivly. The implication here is that Jesues is willing to set aside His own rights in Obedience to the fathers Higher puroposes, This being the case why can we not do the same? What Christ did is highlighted with What He did not do. He did not cling to His entitlements
Negatively: What Christ did is highlighted with What He did not do. He did not cling to His entitlements
The phrase “something to be exploded” carries with it tow meanings:
1. Jesus did not need to snatch at equality with God, because he had it as a right.
2. It can mean that he did not clutch at equality with God, as if to hug it jealously to himself, but laid it down willingly for the sake of men and women. However, we take this, it once again stresses the essential godhead of Jesus.
Philippians 2:7 CSB
7 Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man,
note emptied Himself because of Love
Christ emptied Himself taking on the form of a servant. He took on Human likeness again, He emptied does not mean that he fully gave up his deity, but that he gave up some of the independent use of his attributes. He was still fully God and fully man he Did not give up His deity to come to earth.
Christ emptied Himself taking on the form of a servent. He took on Human likeness again, He was fully God and fully man he Did not give up His diety to come to earth.
This again points out all Christ gave up for us.
This again points out all Christ gave up for us.
Philippians 2:8 CSB
8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross.
Humbled Himself: Humbling Himself means that he became obedient to the most unthinkable action He became obedient unto death, and not only death, the death of the cross. Christ chose to humble himself instead of asserting His power to save himself from this death
Because of our sin nature our our view of power and rights is tarnished. There is not one of us that has not been taken advantage of at some point in our life when we have power and rights we do not want to give them up because we are afraid they may be used against us, and it opens a weekness up. This however is not How God works.

Philippians 2:9–10 ESV
9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
-Because Jesus emptied Himself God highly exalted Him
-Because Jesus Humbled Himself God gave Him and honored Name
-Because Jesus was obedient even to death God Made every knee bow to Him
Because of Christ’s obedient self-emptying death on the cross, God exalted Hm to the highest place of honor Paul is refering to Jesus being called Lord
Philippians 2:10 CSB
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow— in heaven and on earth and under the earth—
The Point being every Knee, there is no one that will not bow. The statement every knee makes the point that it is fully comprehensive, but paul goes an extra step and points out:
In Heaven- Angels
On earth-Men on earth
Under the earth- The dead
Philippians 2:10 ESV
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
Philippians 2:11 ESV
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
In contrast with every knee shall bow every touge will also confess Wo hi is
The statement to the Glory of God the father makes the important point that the grand end of Christ’s office and kingdom will be fully realized and all Glory will be given to god
Insert Revelatiton passage about every knee Bowing
The Term Lord may be an implied protest against the pagan gods and Lords. In addition, it may possibly be against the title of the Roman empires. The idea being that God the father is the ultimate object for Worship. and that the pagon Gods and Lords should be toward down

Commitment
I will not let my church be about my preferences and desires. That is self-serving. I am a member in this Church to serve others and to serve Christ. My savior went to a cross for me. I can deal with any inconveniences and matters that just aren’t my preference or style.
